Impact Weather Ahead with more storms likely Tuesday and Wednesday in Alabama

FIRST, THIS IS WVTM 13 WEATHER. WELL, TUESDAY IS AN IMPACT DAY, NOT ALL OF US ARE GOING TO SEE INTENSE THUNDERSTORMS, BUT THOSE WHO DO COULD GET WIND GUSTS OVER 40 LOCALLY. HEAVY RAINFALL, SOME SMALL HAIL, FREQUENT LIGHTNING, VERY SIMILAR TO THE WEATHER THAT WAS COMING THROUGH CENTRAL ALABAMA ABOUT 24 HOURS AGO. I CAN’T TELL YOU THIS MUCH. I DON’T THINK THAT WE HAVE A LOT OF WIDESPREAD STORMS NORTH OF THE BIRMINGHAM AREA. THE MAJORITY OF THE HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS THAT COME THROUGH ON TUESDAY LIKELY GOING TO BE IN THIS ZONE ACROSS CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI INTO WEST CENTRAL ALABAMA. JUST LIKE THAT. SO THIS IS THE HOT SPOT THAT WILL BE WATCHING FOR THE MOST INTENSE STORMS. BUT EVEN FROM BIRMINGHAM NORTHWARD, THERE WILL STILL BE SOME RAIN AND OCCASIONAL SHOWERS AND STORMS THROUGHOUT THE MORNING. IN PARTICULAR, 6 A.M. TO 9 A.M. WESTERN ALABAMA, THE CENTRAL PART OF THE STATE, BIRMINGHAM, CULLMAN ONEONTA SPRINGVILLE PELL CITY. CHELSEA ALABASTER SYLACAUGA CLANTON NINE ONE TO NOON IS THE BEST TIME TO EXPECT SOME SHOWERS OR A FEW STORMS AND THEN THOSE STORMS TRANSITION OVER TOWARD THE EAST BETWEEN MIDDAY AND 5 P.M. MIGHT SEE A BRIEF STORM REDEVELOP TOMORROW AFTERNOON. NOT A LOT HAPPENING OUT THERE ON WVTM 13. LIVE DOPPLER THIS EVENING, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN SOME BIG STORMS DOWN TO OUR SOUTH. IN FACT, A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING STILL IN EFFECT IN THE WIREGRASS IN SOUTHEAST ALABAMA AND OVER TOWARD SOUTHWEST GEORGIA. A FEW MORE STORMS FIRING UP OUT HERE OVER TEXAS, PART OF A DISTURBANCE THAT WILL MOVE THIS WAY. AND LIKELY HELP TO SET OFF THE THUNDERSTORMS IN THE OVERNIGHT PERIOD. SO, REMEMBER, WE LOOK AT THAT ZONE, CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI, INTO WEST CENTRAL ALABAMA OVERNIGHT, RIGHT THROUGH EARLY TUESDAY. WATCH THE SIMULATED RADAR HERE, 9:00 IN THE MORNING, A FEW LOCALLY HEAVY STORMS AROUND GREENE, HALE, MARENGO AND SUMTER COUNTIES, SCATTERED SHOWERS ELSEWHERE FROM JEFFERSON COUNTY, NORTHWARD UP THROUGH JASPER AND CULLMAN, OCCASIONAL SHOWERS THROUGH THE MORNING. AND THEN THE HEAVIER ACTION STARTS SHIFTING DOWN TOWARD THE MONTGOMERY AREA. BY TOMORROW AFTERNOON. AND TOMORROW EVENING, A FEW LEFTOVER SHOWERS AND STORMS FARTHER NORTH. SO TOMORROW WE START OUT IN THE MID 60S IN BIRMINGHAM, BUT IT’LL BE IN THE 50S UP AROUND CULLMAN AND GADSDEN. YOUR BEST CHANCE OF HEAVIER THUNDERSTORMS. SOUTH OF BIRMINGHAM, HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 70S AND LOWER 80S WITH A LIGHT WEST BREEZE WIND TODAY ANOTHER IMPACT DAY THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY IN MULTIPLE WAVES HERE. FREQUENT LIGHTNING, STRONG WIND GUSTS AS WELL AS SOME FLASH FLOODING COULD OCCUR AS WE JUST GET WAVE AFTER WAVE OF STORMS FROM WEDNESDAY MORNING THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT. SCATTERED STORMS GOING TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE WEEKEND, TOO. ALL IN ALL, RYA

Impact Weather Ahead with more storms likely Tuesday and Wednesday in Alabama

More rainy, stormy weather sets in through the rest of the week following a quiet Monday for North and Central Alabama. Tuesday and Wednesday are ‘IMPACT DAYS’ for the threat of heavy rainfall and a few severe storms with hail and strong wind gusts. Check the video forecast for the latest.⚠️ IMPACT WEATHER: WHAT TO EXPECT ⚠️The first big blast of June storms hit Sunday night and early Monday morning knocking out power to thousands, downing trees, and scattering leaves, branches, and trampolines all over the state. The weather remains quiet overnight, but another round of showers and storms moves in Tuesday morning.Impact Days and some things to know: ⚠️ TUESDAY: A complex of storms moves into western Alabama Tuesday morning with potential for some strong wind gusts and heavy rain between 6 AM and 9 AM mainly southwest of Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. Showers are likely north of the heavy storms through the morning hours; only a few spotty storms develop in the afternoon. The greatest impact from storms Tuesday looks to be south of Birmingham and Tuscaloosa: near and south of US 80. Isolated additional afternoon/evening storms fire up between 1 PM and 8 PM over North and Central Alabama. Coverage looks limited, but any storms that manage to develop could get heavy. ⚠️ WEDNESDAY: Wednesday’s timing and placement is much more difficult to pinpoint because we expect multiple waves of storms on Wednesday. Most of North and Central Alabama get at least one dose of heavy rain from late Tuesday night through Wednesday evening: potentially as much as 1-2” of rain with the most intense storms. The Storm Prediction Center maintains a ‘SLIGHT RISK’ of severe storms for Central and South Alabama Wednesday. The strongest storms Wednesday could produce very high wind gusts over 60 MPH and large hail mainly near and south of a line from Aliceville to Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to Anniston. We expect two primary waves of storms Wednesday: one in the early morning mainly south of the Birmingham area and another in the afternoon that impacts more of the state. ⚠️ WHAT ABOUT THURSDAY? More storms are possible Thursday and Thursday night. Some of those may be strong as well, but the coverage looks much more limited as it often is the day after widespread storms. Keep Thursday in the back of your mind for the potential, but over-all storm threats decrease somewhat for Thursday and Friday.⚠️ Impact days are designed to let you know when the weather may get rough but is not necessarily extreme or life-threatening. Summer storms can be the worst weather you may feel all year: whether the storm is 'severe' by definition or not.LOOKING TOWARD FATHER’S DAY WEEKENDFriday and the upcoming weekend look hotter with generally fewer storms; however, some spotty storms may still pack quite a punch as the typically do in early summer.Expect sticky, muggy nights in the 70s and hot, humid afternoons around 88 to 92 degrees with a partly sunny sky and a good chance of more scattered storms. In all, some communities may see more than 3-5 inches of rainfall through the rest of this week and the weekend while others get just over 1 inch.If you have outdoor activities planned for the weekend, keep in mind that there is no real skill in predicting a single thunderstorm to a single spot.
