More than 5K without power in Alabama during winter storm

THEY WERE SLEDDING AND THERE YOU GO. THAT’S ACTUALLY JASON. THERE’S JASON. JASON GOING DOWN THE HILL. DOWN THE HILL. NICE TO ME. JASON ACTUALLY HAD SOME FUN. WOW. YOU KNOW WHAT? IT DOESN’T MATTER IF WHO YOU ARE, WHAT AGE YOU ARE. I THINK A SNOW DAY IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL. IT IS TO BUILD A SNOWMAN. SNOW ANGELS, SLED. WHATEVER IT IS, IT IS ONCE A YEAR, MAYBE TWICE. YEAH, YOU KNOW, AND GET IT OVER IN ONE DAY. GET ONE GOOD DAY OF SNOW AND THEN BACK TO BUSINESS AS USUAL. WE DO HAVE ONE MORE THING TO DEAL WITH, THOUGH. WE’VE GOT AN IMPACT OR EXCUSE ME, ALERT DAY FOR THIS EVENING AND TOMORROW BECAUSE WE COULD SEE A REFREEZE. SO WE’LL BE WATCHING OUT FOR THAT. THANKFULLY IT IS SATURDAY SO HOPEFULLY FOLKS ARE ABLE TO JUST STAY INDOORS FOR THE FIRST HALF OF THE DAY TOMORROW. HERE’S WHAT WE LOOK LIKE RIGHT NOW. SO THIS IS ALL ACROSS CENTRAL AND NORTH ALABAMA. TEMPERATURES ARE IN THE LOW TO MID 30S. MOST EVERYONE ABOVE THE FREEZING MARK. THE EXCEPTION OVER THE LAST FEW HOURS HAS BEEN COLEMAN. WE’VE BEEN SITTING AT THAT 32 DEGREE MARK, AND WE DO STILL HAVE THAT SLUSH ON THE ROADS. SO AS WE KEEP DROPPING THAT, THAT WILL POTENTIALLY BECOME AN ISSUE. THOSE ARE SOME OF THE SPOTS WHERE WE WILL LIKELY SEE THAT PATCHY BLACK ICE DEVELOPING ONCE AGAIN. THAT’S WHY WE HAVE AN ALERT DAY FOR TONIGHT. TOMORROW WE EXPECT SOME FREEZING ON THE ROADS AS TEMPS FALL BELOW THE FREEZING MARK. THAT MEANS TRAVEL IS GOING TO BE DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE IN SOME CASES, ESPECIALLY OVER NORTH ALABAMA. LOOKING FROM OUR WVTM 13 LIVE DOPPLER RADAR, WE’RE DONE WITH ALL THE HEAVY STUFF. JUST A FEW LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS. THAT MIST JUST KIND OF NUISANCE RAIN AS YOU SAW IN ERIN’S LIVE SHOT THERE OVER BIRMINGHAM RIGHT NOW. TEMPERATURE 34. SO A VERY COLD RAIN FALLING IN SOME SPOTS THAT ALL WILL EVENTUALLY COME TO AN END. AND THEN OUR FOCUS IS REALLY GOING TO SHIFT TOWARDS THOSE TEMPERATURES. WATCHING THOSE DROP OVERNIGHT INTO EARLY TOMORROW. THIS IS 2 A.M. AND WHERE WE HAVE THE PINK COLOR HERE, THAT’S WHERE TEMPERATURES ARE NEAR OR BELOW THE FREEZING MARK. IT’S REALLY ONCE WE GET DOWN INTO THE 20S THAT WE WILL START TO SEE POTENTIALLY SOME WIDESPREAD ISSUES ON THE ROADS. SO OVER NORTH ALABAMA, BY 4 A.M., WE EXPECT ANY KIND OF SLUSH OR MOISTURE ON THE ROADS TO FREEZE. WE’RE RIGHT AT THE FREEZING MARK IN BIRMINGHAM. BRIDGES, OVERPASSES LIKELY TO BE AN ISSUE FROM ABOUT 2 A.M. TO ABOUT 8 OR 9 A.M. EARLY TOMORROW MORNING, AND WE WILL REALLY BE CLIMBING ABOVE THE FREEZING MARK BY LUNCHTIME. SO IF YOU CAN HANG OUT AT HOME UNTIL LUNCHTIME, THAT’S GOING TO BE THE BEST BET. WE ALSO HAVE THE SUN BREAKING OUT AT TIMES THROUGH THE SECOND HALF OF THE DAY TOMORROW, SO THAT’S GOING TO HELP TO IMPROVE OUR ROADWAYS AS WELL. BUT I DID WANT TO POINT OUT TEMPERATURES EARLY ON SUNDAY MORNING BECAUSE IT IS GOING TO BE VERY COLD TO START THE DAY ON SUNDAY. AND THAT DOES MEAN THAT’S THE KIND OF TEMPERATURE WHERE YOU GOT TO MAKE SURE YOU’RE DRIPPING YOUR
