Did you know the Cahaba River meanders roughly 20 miles through Hoover? Thanks to a partnership between the City of Hoover and Signature Homes the community has direct access to the river via a new canoe launch.
On Wednesday, October 30, Hoover held a ribbon cutting at the site which is located at Flemming Park (2502 Murphy Pass, Hoover, AL 35244).
Hoover and the Cahaba River
Flemming Park is one of Hoover’s newest green spaces. It is located on the back side of the Lake Wilborn subdivision.
When the Lake Wilborn homes were completed, Signature Homes built out the 100-acre park and donated the recreational area to the City of Hoover for maintenance.
In addition to the newly christened canoe launch other amenities at the park include:
- Ten miles of hiking and biking trails
- Covered pavilion
“We have more riverfront than any city along the Cahaba River in the state of Alabama and for many years, we have not taken full advantage of that amenity that God blessed us with right here in our community. This (new canoe launch) is a huge step forward.”
John Lyda, President, Hoover City Council
