New Orleans metro area ranks in the top ten for entrepreneurship in US

The New Orleans metro area has ranked in the top ten for entrepreneurship in the United States in 2022.

According to a Gusto.com analysis, Greater New Orleans ranked No. 9 in the U.S. for business applications per capita. The rankings were touted in a news release by GNO, Inc.

As Gusto research has previously found, the surge in new business establishments in America has been driven by groups who traditionally participated less in entrepreneurship, including women and entrepreneurs of color.

Greater New Orleans ranks in the top ten in the nation for women and African-Americans in digital media and tech jobs, according to a Lightcast and GNO, Inc. analysis.

Entrepreneurship is shifting from coastal cities in the Northeast and West to the Southeast and Mountain West, according to the news release. Among major metro areas, four of the top five cities were in Florida. None of the top 10 cities were located in the Northeast, with New York City being the first at No. 17.
