The NFL announced its fines on Saturday for infractions from the Divisional Round games. Will Anderson Jr. and linebacker Henry To’oTo’o, after being flagged for roughing passer and unnecessary roughness, respectively, in plays involving Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the Houston Texans’ 23-14 loss on Jan. 18, could have expected to be on the list, particularly after Anderson said: “We knew it was going to be us versus the refs going into this game.”
But neither former Alabama standout was fined for infractions that have routinely cost NFL transgressors money throughout the 2024 season.
The penalties were questioned during ABC/ESPN’s coverage of the game, and after the contest, referee Clay Martin offers explanations for the calls to a pool reporter. Walt Anderson, current NFL rules analyst and former NFL vice president of officiating, was on NFL Network the next day to say the officials got the calls right.
Despite that, the fines report suggests the NFL may think otherwise now.

Anderson got flagged for roughing the passer on an incomplete pass by Mahomes on a third-and-8 snap at the Chiefs 33-yard line. Kansas City capitalized on the 15 yards and first down by completing the series with a field goal for a 6-3 lead with 3:59 left in the first quarter.
The Chiefs took a 20-12 lead with 11:52 to play on a touchdown drive aided by an unnecessary-roughness penalty against To’oTo’o, who was flagged as Mahomes scrambled for a 4-yard gain on a first-and-10 snap at the Kansas City 35-yard line.
“It is what it is,” To’oTo’o said after the game. “They’re going to call it. It’s whatever.”
