A Birmingham police officer fired a service weapon Saturday night while responding to a shots fired call.It happened in the 1100 block of 3rd Avenue West around 9 p.m.Officer Truman Fitzgerald with the BPD said when officers arrived on the scene, they saw a group of men arguing in the middle of the road.Moments later, officers saw one of the men fire shots at several people.That's when one of the officers fired their weapon at the man who was shooting.No one was injured in this incident. The man who was shooting was taken into custody along with two other men for questioning. The man who fired shots was later released after investigators determined he may have been acting in self-defense.
