A man was shot and killed by a Sardis City police officer Wednesday morning after an incident outside a school, according to the Etowah County Sheriff's Office.The situation began around 7:30 a.m. when an officer responded to a call about a possible disturbance in the car drop-off line near Sardis Middle School.When the officer arrived, the man left in a vehicle and the chase began down multiple roads in an unincorporated part of the county, ending in a driveway off Lawson Gap Road.The man then got out of the vehicle and there was an altercation with shots exchanged between him and an officer.Although officers and medical personnel attempted life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.No officers were injured. There were no injuries, disruptions, or danger to any students or staff at Sardis Middle School and activities continued as normal, according to the sheriff's office. The Sardis Police Department requested that the Etowah County Sheriff's Office investigate the shooting. The Jacksonville State Center for Applied Forensic Science will assist in the investigation.
