Some residents residents at The Flats at Colebridge feel neglected
COUNTY JAIL, THIS TIME WITHOUT BOND. RESIDENTS AT THE FLATS AT COLE BRIDGE IN TARRANT ARE RINGING THE ALARM ON LIVING CONDITIONS IN THEIR APARTMENT COMPLEX. SO THE SENIOR CITIZENS SAY THE PROPERTY IS NOT BEING KEPT UP AND THERE ARE SEVERAL ISSUES MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR THEM TO GET AROUND THE FACILITY. WVTM 13. JARVIS ROBERTSON JOINING US LIVE IN TARRANT, JUST OUTSIDE THE APARTMENTS. AND YOU HAD A CHANCE TO SPEAK WITH SOME TENANTS THIS MORNING. WHAT DID THEY SAY? YEAH, IAN, I SPOKE WITH ABOUT A DOZEN OF THEM AND THEY SAY THE LIVING CONDITIONS ARE HORRIBLE. NOW, THEY DIDN’T WANT TO SHOW THEIR FACE ON CAMERA, BUT THEY NEEDED SOMEONE TO HELP THEM OUT. A GROWING LIST OF CONCERNS FOR RESIDENTS AT THE FLATS AT COLD BRIDGE IN TARRANT FRIDAY MORNING, I SPOKE WITH SEVERAL OF THE SENIOR CITIZENS THAT AREN’T HAPPY WITH THE LIVING CONDITIONS. THE ELEVATOR BEEN DOWN THREE WEEKS. HE LIVES ON THE FIRST FLOOR SO IT DOESN’T AFFECT HIM AS MUCH, BUT SAYS THERE’S SOMEONE ON THE SECOND FLOOR WHO DOESN’T HAVE LEGS. ONE OF HER RELATIVES HAVE TO COME AND TOTE HER DOWN THE STEPS AND THEN WHEN THEY GET BACK, THEN THEY HAVE TO TOTE HER BACK UP TO HER APARTMENT. ANOTHER PERSON WHO LIVES ON THE THIRD FLOOR SAYS IT’S A MAJOR INCONVENIENCE FOR HER BECAUSE TAKING THE STAIRS IS NOT EASY, ESPECIALLY WHEN SHE GOES GROCERY SHOPPING. WHAT I HAVE TO DO NOW IS PUT MY WAGON ON THE THIRD FLOOR. COME BACK DOWNSTAIRS AND CARRY UP MAYBE ABOUT TWO BAGS ON EACH ARM, SET THAT IN MY BAG AND THEN COME BACK DOWN AND GET THE REST OF MY GROCERIES AND MY WATER. YOU KNOW, THERE’S THE 40, 40 COUNT. I CAN’T BRING THAT UP. HERE’S A LETTER THAT WAS POSTED TO EACH RESIDENT’S DOOR TODAY SAYING THAT A CERTIFIED CONTRACTOR IS WORKING DILIGENTLY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, RESIDENTS SAY THIS ISN’T THE ONLY ISSUE. I’M TOLD PEOPLE WHO ARE ON A LEASE HAVE BEEN STAYING HERE. THE BUILDING ISN’T SECURED PROPERLY AND CLEANLINESS IS A PROBLEM. TARRANT POLICE HAVE RESPONDED TO THIS LOCATION THIS YEAR FOR A SUSPICIOUS PERSON, SOMEONE TRESPASSING, THEFT OF PROPERTY AND SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY. RESIDENTS SAY THEY’VE MADE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO GET PROPERTY MANAGEMENT TO HEAR ABOUT THEIR PROBLEMS HAPPENING, BUT FEELS NO ONE IS INTERESTED. NO MATTER. WE’RE TALK TO US ABOUT IT. WE WE IF YOU CALL THE THE THE MAIN OFFICE, THEY WILL NOT ANSWER THE PHONE. NOW, THIS IS A NOW THIS IS A SENIOR LIVING FACILITY. IT’S GEARED TOWARDS THOSE WHO ARE 55 AND OLDER. AND I SHOULD SAY INDEPENDENT LIVING. NOW, I DID REACH OUT TO VANTAGE MANAGEMENT. THAT IS THE COMPANY THAT OWNS THIS APARTMENT COMPLEX. I’VE PLACED MULTIPLE PHONE CALLS, LEFT VOICEMAILS, AND SENT SEVERAL EMAILS AS OF RIGHT NOW, I HAVE NOT GOTTEN A RESPONSE BACK TO ANY OF THAT CORRESPONDENCE. I ALSO REACHED OUT TO THE JEFFERSON COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO FIND OUT IF THEY’VE HAD ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS FACILITY. I AM TOLD THEY HAVE NOT. ONCE WE HEAR BACK, WE’LL LET YOU KNOW. Those we spoke to did not want to be identified and say they feel ignored.The Flats at Colebridge is an independent living facility for ages 55 and up. It's owned by Vantage Management Group, a company in Fyffe, Alabama.The building has three floors. Residents tell us there are some tenants who don't have legs, and/or use a wheelchair to get around. Without working elevators, some are stuck in the building. We're told family members have been carrying loved ones up and down the stairs since to attend appointments. Friday morning, a letter was placed on each person's door letting that reads, "We are currently experiencing a technical difficulty with the elevator that has rendered it temporarily inoperable. Our certified contractor is diligently working to rectify the issue as swiftly as possible to restore full functionality to the elevator."Your neighborhood: Local coverage from WVTM 13The elevators are not the only issue tenants have.Building security, cleanliness, random people living on the property who are not 55 and up/lease holders. Residents say the lawn care isn't kept up on a regular basis.We reached out to Tarrant police to find out how many times they've responded to the apartment complex at 851 Bell Avenue. Chief Wendell Major sent the following information regarding calls officers were dispatched: traffic accident private property, unattended death, suspicious person, burglary no forced entry, feminine products missing, trespassing suspect unknown person in her apartment, theft of property, government documents missing, suspicious activity.WVTM reached out to VMG multiple times on Wednesday afternoon and Friday. Residents WVTM spoke to say elevators have been down for three weeks. Those we spoke to did not want to be identified and say they feel ignored.
