One dead, another injured in Woodlawn shootings

The Birmingham Police Department responded to two people who had been shot in the Woodlawn community Wednesday afternoon.The first incident happened just before 2 p.m. on 52nd Way North. Officials say a man was found shot in a triplex apartment building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.Shortly after, police responded to reports of another shooting incident just a few blocks away at the Woodlawn Library. There, police found one person shot. "We, the ones that are not doing crime, do our best to try and prevent this stuff and try to, as neighbors, look out for each other," Todd said. "We're just tired of it. It's just, I want to feel comfortable. I want to be able, like in other neighborhoods, like Homewood or stuff, to feel like I can walk in it in peace and not have to dodge bullets."BPD Officer Truman Fitzgerald had one plea for residents to help get those responsible for the violence off the streets. "It's broad daylight," Fitzgerald said. "We do have community members out that are concerned. This neighborhood that we're in now is a heavily populated neighborhood everyone knows everybody. If anyone knows anything, please give us a call."The name of the victim has not yet been released. This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
