Showers linger Friday night but Alabama sees hotter, drier weather soon

I’LL SEND IT BACK TO YOU. WELL, THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THAT WE’VE HAD TODAY GIVE US A MEDIUM IMPACT FOR HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL THIS EVENING. RAIN WILL BE GRADUALLY TAPERING OFF THROUGH THE GAMES, ESPECIALLY SOUTH OF BIRMINGHAM, BUT AROUND AND WEST OF BIRMINGHAM, TUSCALOOSA, JASPER FAYETTE, UP TO HAMILTON DOUBLE SPRINGS, THERE’S A GOOD CHANCE WE’RE GOING TO SEE SOME SHOWERS ON AND OFF THROUGHOUT MOST OF THE EVENING. HERE’S A LOOK AT JEFFERSON, SHELBY, NORTH BIBB, TUSCALOOSA COUNTY. AS YOU CAN SEE, THE WAVES OF SHOWERS STILL PASSING THROUGH. WE’RE ABOUT TO GET A LITTLE BIT OF A BREAK IN TUSCALOOSA, BUT THIS IS JUST PERSISTENT LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN FROM ALABASTER AND CALERA NORTHWARD UP I-65 THROUGH HOOVER INTO THE HEART OF BIRMINGHAM AND UP TOWARD GARDENDALE TO SHOWERS, ALSO EXTENDING INTO BLOUNT AND CULLMAN COUNTIES. BUT THE HEAVIEST RAIN ON WVTM 13 LIVE DOPPLER HERE AT 647, RIGHT OVER SMITH LAKE, JUST NORTH OF CURRY, FAIRLY CLOSE TO THE BRIDGE, GOING OVER SMITH LAKE. AND THEN YOU’VE GOT OTHER DOWNPOURS, CARBON HILL DOWN TOWARD HUBBERTVILLE AND OVER TO WINFIELD AND MARION COUNTY IN ETOWAH AND CALHOUN COUNTIES. THERE’S NOT MUCH RAIN YET, BUT SOME DRIZZLE AND LIGHT RAIN IS CERTAINLY A POSSIBILITY AS THE SHOWERS CONTINUE TO MOVE NORTHBOUND THROUGH THE REST OF THE EVENING. SO HERE’S WHAT WE THINK HAPPENS FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT. WE GET SOME SHOWERS UP UNTIL ABOUT MIDNIGHT, 1:00 IN THE MORNING. A FEW BRIEF ISOLATED AREAS OF RAIN EARLY IN THE MORNING AND THEN THE REST OF THE DAY, WE SEE AN EAST WIND HELPING TO DRY THINGS OUT. THAT’S AS THIS UPPER AIR DISTURBANCE PULLS AWAY FROM US. SO HERE’S WHAT THE RADAR WILL LOOK SOMETHING LIKE AROUND 4 A.M., SOME ISOLATED SHOWERS. I DON’T THINK TOMORROW IS GOING TO BE A GREAT DAY FOR YARD WORK, ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE THINKING OF CUTTING GRASS BECAUSE IT DOES NOT LOOK VERY DRY FROM THE STANDPOINT OF BEING ABLE TO DRY OUT AFTER TODAY’S RAIN. YOU STILL MAY BE ABLE TO GET IT DONE BECAUSE IT’S NOT POURING AT THE MOMENT, BUT SOME RAIN IS A POSSIBILITY THROUGH AT LEAST SATURDAY AFTERNOON. BUT I THINK THE GOOD NEWS HERE IS THAT, NUMBER ONE, IT’S NOT ALL THAT HOT. AND TWO, WITH THE RAIN ENDING COLLEGE FOOTBALL TOMORROW ACROSS THE STATE, WE SHOULD BE IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE FOR IT. BOTH RAIN WISE AND TEMPERATURE WISE. PRETTY COMFORTABLE SATURDAY FOR THE FIRST WEEK IN THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER. IN THE 60S, IN THE MORNING. ETOWAH COUNTY. BLOUNT COUNTY. SAINT CLAIR COUNTY. CALHOUN COUNTY. LOW 70S AROUND. ENSLEY. PELHAM TUSCALOOSA. UP TO JASPER AND FAYETTE CLANTON AROUND 69, EARLY IN THE MORNING, AND THEN TOMORROW AFTERNOON, DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH SUNSHINE YOU GET, I THINK ABOUT 82, 83, 84 DEGREES LIKELY IN MOST COMMUNITIES. AUBURN TAKING ON UMASS TOMORROW, 83 AT JORDAN-HARE AT KICKOFF SHOULD BE BEAUTIFUL WEATHER IN AUBURN FOR THAT ONE AND I THINK TUSCALOOSA DRIES OUT ALTHOUGH A BRIEF SHOWER IS POSSIBLE UP UNTIL ABOUT 6:00 IN THE EVENING. BY 630 KICKOFF, I THINK IT’S PRETTY MUCH GONE. AND THEN FOR JACKSONVILLE STATE TOMORROW AFTERNOON, EAST TENNESSEE STATE COMING IN TO PLAY AT BURGESS-SNOW FIELD WILL BE IN THE UPPER 70S AND LOW 80S THROUGH THE DURATION OF THAT ONE. SOME SUNSHINE, SOME CLOUDS AT TIMES ON SATURDAY, MORE IN THE WAY OF SUN ON SUNDAY. MONDAY, TUESDAY. AND YOU CAN SEE HOW THE TEMPERATURE STARTS TO BUILD UPWARD. WE’RE BACK IN THE LOW TO MID 90S THROUGH NEXT WEEK WITH SOME SCATTERED STORMS REDEVELOPING BY FRIDAY. JARVIS AND SHERRI. WELL
