Sunshine on Thursday, more showers possible for Memorial Day Weekend

FIRST, THIS IS WVTM. 13 WEATHER. QUIET WEATHER AROUND HERE TONIGHT. AND TODAY WE FINALLY GOT RID OF THE RAIN FOR A FEW DAYS. IF YOU DIDN’T GET YOUR FAIR SHARE OF IT, THIS WEEK, YOUR CHANCES ARE NOT LOOKING GREAT THROUGH THE WEEKEND. BUT AT THE SAME TIME, YOU STILL MAY GET A LITTLE BIT NOW AND THEN WITH THIS SPOTTY SHOWER KIND OF REGIME THAT WE GET THIS TIME OF YEAR, 67 RIGHT NOW IN BIRMINGHAM, THE DEW POINT DOWN AT 60. AND THAT’S A GOOD INDICATOR OF WHERE WE’LL WIND UP EARLY TOMORROW MORNING. IT’S DRIER TONIGHT, SO IT’S MORE COMFORTABLE IN MANY COMMUNITIES IN THE UPPER 50S. BY TOMORROW MORNING, FEWER HEAVY DOWNPOURS AHEAD, BUT NOT COMPLETELY REMOVING THE CHANCE OF RAIN FROM THE FORECAST. AND FOR THE WEEKEND, WE HAVE A NORTHEAST WIND WHICH THIS TIME OF YEAR, A NORTHEAST WIND ALLOWS US TO STAY WARM, BUT IT ALSO SUPPRESSES THE HEAT. ALSO SUPPRESSING THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. AND THAT’S WHAT HAPPENED THIS AFTERNOON. GRADUALLY DRY AIR CAME IN FROM THE NORTHEAST AND IT STARTED PUSHING THE SHOWERS OUT. AND RIGHT NOW ON WVTM 13, LIVE DOPPLER, THERE IS NOT A SHOWER TO BE FOUND FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A LONG, LONG TIME. SO THERE’S OUR NORTHEAST WIND HAD EVEN IN THE DRIER AIR SOME ISOLATED SHOWERS UP IN THE SHOALS EARLIER TODAY. BUT NOW OUR ATTENTION BEGINS TO SHIFT DOWN TOWARD THE SOUTH WHERE WE’VE GOT THIS DISTURBANCE OVER FLORIDA THAT’S GOING TO START TO MAKE A TURN AND SHIFT A LOT OF THAT ENERGY OVER TOWARD THE EAST COAST WHERE WE HAVE LOTS OF WARM WATER HERE. AND BECAUSE OF THAT, AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE STARTS DEVELOPING HERE EAST OF JACKSONVILLE AND WHEN IT DOES, IT’S GOING TO GET PULLED NORTH UP INTO SOUTH CAROLINA ON THE EASTERN SIDE OF THAT, LOTS AND LOTS OF RAIN FOR THE UPCOMING WEEKEND. ROUGH SURF, RIP CURRENTS ALONG THE EAST COAST. BUT AROUND HERE, WE’LL STILL HAVE THIS NORTHERLY FLOW WHICH AGAIN, WON’T BE COMPLETELY DRY. BUT THERE’S A GOOD CHANCE THAT WE SEE MORE SPOTS GETTING MISSED BY THE RAIN THEN HIT BY IT TOMORROW. HARDLY ANY. YOU HAVE ANY SIGNIFICANT RAIN FRIDAY, A BETTER CHANCE OF AN ISOLATED STORM OR TWO. SATURDAY, SUNDAY. IT’S JUST WORTH A MENTION THAT IF YOU’RE OUTDOORS YOU MAY HAVE AN ISOLATED SHOWER THAT DRIFTS OVERHEAD FOR A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME IN THE 60S IN THE MORNING, IN THE 80S, TOMORROW AFTERNOON, GETTING A LITTLE BIT WARMER NOW DOWN ON THE GULF COAST MONDAY LOOKS A LITTLE BIT WETTER, BUT I DON’T THINK IT’S A COMPLETE WASHOUT. THE RISK OF RIP CURRENTS IS LOW, BUT ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE FLAGS DOWN ALONG GULF SHORES AND ORANGE BEACH AND INTO NORTHWEST FLORIDA AS WELL. CHANCE OF A STORM ON FRIDAY. THE HIGH AT 80, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. WE’RE IN THE 70S. MONDAY, MEMORIAL DAY, A MOSTLY SUNNY SKY, THE HIGH UP TO 83. AND THEN WE START GETTING A LITTLE HOTTER, FEELING A BIT MORE LIKE SUMMERTIME GOING INTO TUESDAY AN

Sunshine on Thursday, more showers possible for Memorial Day Weekend

Sunshine returns ahead of Memorial Day Weekend though a few heavy downpours are possible Friday and Saturday. Check the video forecast for the latest.THURSDAY BRINGS SUN The showers and thunderstorms this week brought by an upper-air disturbance near the gulf coast is now moving off to the east. Expect drier weather through Thursday and most of the day Friday as the disturbance weakens and drier air filters in from the northeast. Thursday will bring sunshine over central Alabama allowing highs to climb to the mid 80s. This will be prettiest day of the week thus far. MORE RAIN FRIDAY? On Friday, another disturbance coming in from the north could trigger a few scattered showers and storms over the northern half of Alabama through the afternoon. It does not look like an all-out soaker, but occasionally these little disturbances can kick off some hefty downpours. Afternoon high temperatures will be a bit cooler than average near 80 degrees. MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND OUTLOOKRain and storms remain possible through the holiday weekend. With an area of lower pressure moving in from the north and sufficient moisture at the surface, a few hit-or-miss showers and thunderstorms can't be ruled out. In the midst of dodging showers, morning lows will be cool in the upper 50s and afternoon highs will be comfortable in the upper 70s. Expect a mix of sunshine and clouds with lower humidity thanks to the drier air. If you have outdoor activities planned for the weekend, keep in mind that there is no real skill in predicting a single thunderstorm to a single spot. We see the environment where storms develop much better than we can see the ‘storm’ itself ahead of time.
