Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine forms in the Caribbean and impacts Alabama late this week
ONLY THE BEGINNING OF THE WEEK. HOW’S THE WEEKEND LOOKING FOR THOSE GAMES. SO WE WILL HAVE A COUPLE SHOWERS AROUND SOME LEFTOVER MOISTURE FROM WHAT IS GOING TO BE HURRICANE HELENE. I DO HAVE THE LATEST INFORMATION FROM THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER. SO THIS IS THEIR LATEST ADVISORY JUST CAME OUT AT 4 P.M. THIS IS STILL A POTENTIAL TROPICAL CYCLONE. THAT MEANS IT’S JUST LACKING A WELL-DEFINED CENTER OF CIRCULATION. BUT IT WILL BECOME BETTER ORGANIZED AND LIKELY BY THIS EVENING. WE’LL EITHER HAVE A TROPICAL DEPRESSION OR TROPICAL STORM. THEN PRETTY SOON AFTER. BY WEDNESDAY, THIS THING BECOMES A HURRICANE. SO THAT’S GOING TO BE HURRICANE HELENE. AND THEN WATCH WHAT HAPPENS AS IT MOVES NORTHWARD THROUGH THE GULF. IT WILL STRENGTHEN, LIKELY INTO A MAJOR CATEGORY THREE HURRICANE BEFORE LANDFALL ON THURSDAY. A LANDFALL LIKELY SOMEWHERE NEAR THE BIG BEND OF FLORIDA. BUT KEEP IN MIND THIS TRACK CAN SHIFT IN THE COMING DAYS. WE WANT YOU CHECKING BACK FOR THE LATEST DETAILS. AS OF RIGHT NOW, WE’RE STILL ON THE WESTERN SIDE OF THIS SYSTEM. WE WILL LIKELY FEEL SOME IMPACTS FROM RAIN AND WIND AS THAT CENTER OF CIRCULATION PASSES TO OUR EAST. SO WE’VE GOT A COUPLE DIFFERENT IMPACT DAYS THIS WEEK. WEDNESDAY, AN IMPACT DAY THAT’S ACTUALLY BECAUSE A FRONT IS MOVING INTO OUR AREA THAT’S GOING TO BRING US SHOWERS AND STORMS. A FEW STORMS COULD PRODUCE SOME GUSTY WINDS. WE’LL BE WATCHING FOR HEAVY RAIN AS WELL. THEN WE FEEL THOSE TROPICAL IMPACTS ON BOTH. THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. THURSDAY WE WILL BE DEALING WITH TROPICAL DOWNPOURS IN ADDITION TO THAT, SOME GUSTY WINDS 20 TO 40MPH. WE REMAIN BREEZY ON FRIDAY AND EVENTUALLY SOME DRIER AIR STARTS TO MOVE IN THAT WILL BRING THAT WIDESPREAD RAIN TO AN END ON FRIDAY. WE’LL KEEP A FEW PASSING SHOWERS AT TIMES THROUGH THE WEEKEND, SO THIS IS WEDNESDAY, VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING, A FRONT MOVING INTO THE STATE AND IT’S JUST GOING TO KIND OF STALL ACROSS THE STATE. THAT KEEPS RAIN AND AT TIMES THUNDER LIKELY THROUGH THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY, A FEW STRONG STORMS COULD PRODUCE SOME GUSTY WINDS AS WELL. BY WEDNESDAY EVENING WE STILL HAVE QUITE A BIT OF RAIN ON THE RADAR AND THAT’S NOT GOING TO CHANGE AT ALL. ON THURSDAY. WE ARE LIKELY TO HAVE THOSE TROPICAL DOWNPOURS CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE DAY THURSDAY. THAT MEANS WE COULD HAVE SOME FLOODING CONCERNS ON THURSDAY, WITH RAIN ON AND OFF HEAVY AT TIMES. I DID WANT TO GIVE YOU A CLOSER LOOK AT SOME OF OUR PROJECTED RAINFALL TOTALS, AND I DON’T WANT YOU TO FOCUS TOO MUCH ON THE EXACT NUMBERS HERE, BUT LOOK AT THE OVERALL TREND. SO WEDNESDAY, SOME LOCATIONS COULD PICK UP ANYWHERE FROM 1 TO 2IN OF RAIN. THEN WE REALLY FEEL THOSE TROPICAL IMPACTS. ON THURSDAY. AND YOU’LL SEE THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY THAT WE COULD GET SOME BANDING SETTING UP ACROSS THE STATE, AND THAT’S WHERE WE COULD GET ANYWHERE FROM 2 TO 4 PLUS INCHES IN SOME LOCATIONS. AND THAT COULD LEAD TO SOME FLOODING CONCERNS. AND FOR THAT REASON, THE WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER PLACING BASICALLY ALL OF OUR AREA UNDER A SLIGHT RISK OF EXCESSIVE RAINFALL ON THURSDAY. IN ADDITION TO THAT, REMEMBER, WINDS ARE GOING TO BE GUSTING 20 TO 40MPH AT TIMES ON THURSDAY. EVENTUALLY, WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL BE IMPROVING THROUGHOUT THE DAY ON FRIDAY, AND WE’LL KEEP A FEW SCATTERED STORMS AT TIMES THROUGH THE WEEKEND. BUT THIS WEEKEND DOES NOT LOOK TO BE A WASHOUT FOR TOMORROW. PARTLY CLOUDY SKY CHANCE OF A FEW ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS WITH THAT RAIN COVERAGE REALLY INCREASING INTO WEDNESDAY. SO REALLY OUR FOCUS THIS WEEK, WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. AND OF COURSE I WANT TO REMIND YOU TO KEEP CHECKING BACK FOR TH
