Power has been restored to more than 17,000 Covington residents after a Cleco substation caught fire.
According to Cleco, the fire started at approximately 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, shuttering power for thousands of residents.
Police urged residents to avoid the area, which had many red lights not working.

“Cleco crews worked throughout the night and fully restored power to all customers before 11:30 p.m.,” a spokesperson said by email. “No official cause of fire is available at this time.”
The Covington Fire Department safely extinguished the fire at 8:43 p.m.
The spokesperson said the official cause of the fire is under investigation.
