Rain and wind arrive early Friday with a cold front

FIRST, THIS IS WVTM 13. WEATHER GOT IN THE 60S FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY. SINCE JANUARY 18TH. THIS SO FAR, THE 11TH COLDEST JANUARY, GOING ALL THE WAY BACK TO 1895 FOR THE BIRMINGHAM AREA. CLOUDS HAVE COME IN THIS EVENING AND THAT WILL KEEP THE TEMPERATURE FROM PLUNGING TONIGHT. WE’RE NOT EVEN GOING CLOSE TO FREEZING. MAINLY IN THE 40S. TOMORROW MORNING A CHILL TO THE AIR, BUT IT WILL BE DRY. AND THEN THURSDAY AFTERNOON LOOKS FANTASTIC. CLOSE TO 70 TOMORROW. HERE’S A SNAPSHOT AT 6 A.M. A LITTLE COLDER AROUND THE SOUTH SIDE AND GAYLESVILLE MAYBE NOT QUITE AS COLD FROM BRENT TO AKRON AND FORKLAND AND THEN AROUND JEMISON 46 FAUNSDALE 48 MOODY AT 43 TOMORROW AFTERNOON, THAT SOUTH WIND MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE. AND IF YOU GET ANY SUNSHINE AT ALL, SOME LOW 70S ARE EXPECTED NEAR AND SOUTH AND WEST OF HIGHWAY 82. SO THINK NORTHPORT TO ABOUT CENTREVILLE BRENT OVER TO CHILTON COUNTY AND DOWN INTO AUTAUGA COUNTY. ELMORE COUNTY IT’S A BIT MORE LIKELY THERE, BUT EVEN AROUND HELENA WE COULD GET CLOSE TO 70 TOMORROW AFTERNOON. NO RAIN ON WVTM 13. LIVE DOPPLER AT THE MOMENT, BUT WE ARE TRACKING SOME SHOWERS IN ARKANSAS AND LOUISIANA. AND THIS IS A ZONE THAT WE’VE GOT OUR EYE ON WHERE SOME SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS COULD DEVELOP BY THIS TIME TOMORROW OUT OVER LOUISIANA AND SOUTHEAST TEXAS. AND SOME OF THOSE WILL MOVE INTO MISSISSIPPI LATE TOMORROW EVENING. BUT OUR IMPACT WEATHER HERE IN CENTRAL ALABAMA HAPPENS EARLY FRIDAY MORNING. WIND AND RAIN, HEAVY DOWNPOURS. BUT THEN IT’S IN AND OUT PRETTY QUICKLY. AND WE’RE FINISHED WITH THIS BY LUNCHTIME. SO THIS IS THE ZONE WHERE SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE ON THURSDAY. THAT YELLOW AREA, THE LEVEL 2ND MAY GET A LITTLE ROUGHER AROUND LAFAYETTE, NATCHEZ AND JUST SOUTHEAST OF SHREVEPORT THAN IT WILL AROUND GREENVILLE AND JACKSON. BUT BY THE TIME IT GETS TO US, THERE’S JUST NOT ENOUGH FUEL TO KEEP THOSE STORMS GOING. SO THEY’LL BE LOSING SOME STEAM, BUT IT WILL STILL BE WINDY. GUSTS AROUND 35 TO 45MPH, CLOSE TO A HALF INCH TO ONE INCH OF RAINFALL. VERY LIMITED SEVERE WEATHER THREAT AND THE GREATEST POTENTIAL FOR RAIN AND GUSTY WINDS OVER 30MPH. ABOUT 2 A.M. TO 7 A.M. IN THE BIRMINGHAM AREA. IT WILL BE JUST BEFORE MIDNIGHT BEFORE IT EVEN GETS INTO THE STATE, AND PRIMARILY FOCUSED ON FRIDAY MORNING AND FRIDAY AFTERNOON, SOUTHEAST ALABAMA WILL HAVE A RISK OF A FEW STRONGER STORMS THERE, TOO. SO IN COMES THE RAIN. SO DOES THE WIND GUSTS. OCCASIONALLY IN THE 35 TO 45 MILE PER HOUR RANGE. THAT DOESN’T MAKE A STORM SEVERE, BUT IT WILL BE NOISY EARLY FRIDAY MORNING WITH WIND LIKE THAT, AS WELL AS A DRIVING HEAVY RAIN. AND THEN ONCE THIS HAS PASSED US THINGS LOOKING GOOD GOING INTO THE WEEKEND HIGH OF 63 SATURDAY. CLOSE TO 70 AGAIN ON GROUNDHOG DAY SUNDAY. LOTS OF SUNSHINE TOO FOR GROUNDHOG DAY, MONDAY AND TUESDAY. ANOTHER FRONT GETS CLOSE AND THAT COULD GIVE US A LOW SET BACK INTO TUESDAY WED
