"And then there's there's several multiple motives for the one individual that we believe is targeted," Thurmond said. "But there again, as you mentioned, you've got several others who there'd be motivation from others to target them as well because of their criminal past." Watch the full news conference below.WVTM 13 did criminal background checks on the victims after the news conference Monday.Carlos McCain, one of the victims, was charged with a teen's murder in 2016 but was acquitted by a jury two years later.In 2021, Roderick Patterson, another victim, was also charged with murder, but prosecutors later dropped the charges due to the death and non-cooperation of witnesses.Tips have been pouring in to help solve this case. The mayor is calling Saturday night's shooting "a heinous and cowardly crime."
