Cool front brings nicer weather to Alabama
FIRST, THIS IS WVTM 13 WEATHER. YOU DON’T WANT TO RUSH IT, BUT THIS LOOKS SOMETHING LIKE MAYBE EARLY SEPTEMBER WOULD LOOK AT THAT SUN GOING DOWN OVER TUSCALOOSA COUNTY. A FEW CLOUDS IN THE VIEW HERE, BUT IT’S CRYSTAL CLEAR JUST ABOVE THE CLOUDS. YOU’VE GOT THAT ALMOST COBALT BLUE SKY OUT THERE. IT’S JUST BEEN BEAUTIFUL THIS AFTERNOON. IT’S 84 IN TUSCALOOSA WITH THE NORTHWEST WIND AND A DEW POINT THAT IS FALLING. SO IF YOU’VE BEEN WAITING TO CUT GRASS OR FARMER’S BEEN WAITING TO CUT HAY THE NEXT FEW DAYS, FANTASTIC FOR IT, ESPECIALLY EARLY BECAUSE TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO BE IN OUR FAVOR FOR THE NEXT LITTLE WHILE. 64 EARLY IN THE MORNING. THAT’S THE COOLEST SINCE EARLY JUNE. TOMORROW AFTERNOON, THE HIGH ONLY AT 85 AND THAT’S ABOUT 5 TO 6 DEGREES BELOW AVERAGE, DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE HERE ACROSS THE STATE, 59 IN SOUTH SIDE IN THE MORNING, 62 AT MOODY AND FOREST, 64 AT CHELSEA TALLADEGA DOWN TO SYLACAUGA. I THINK WE’RE HOVERING RIGHT AROUND 60 TO 61 DEGREES, A LITTLE PATCHY FOG MAY DEVELOP IN A SPOT OR TWO WHERE THE WIND IS ABLE TO GO CALM, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE A FANTASTIC START TO YOUR WEDNESDAY AND WE’RE GOING TO FINISH IN A NICE WAY TO LOW TO MID 80S I THINK IN BIRMINGHAM, IN TOWN WE MAKE THE 85 MARK, BUT OUT TOWARD FOREST DALE HELENA MOODY TRUSSVILLE. CLAY GARDENDALE WE’RE PROBABLY HOVERING AROUND 81 TO 82 FOR MOST OF THE AFTERNOON. AND THEN YOU GET UP HERE TOWARD CULLMAN COUNTY IN NORTHWEST OVER TO HALEYVILLE, UP TOWARD THE SHOALS, AND THEN EVEN SOME OF THE HIGH TERRAIN IN NORTHEAST ALABAMA, LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, NOCCALULA FALLS PROBABLY WON’T EVEN GET THAT MUCH ABOVE 80 TOMORROW AFTERNOON. IF YOU EVEN MAKE IT TO 80 DEGREES. THE RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS HAVE MOVED OUT FOR NOW, THERE IS ONE LONE DOWNPOUR JUST SOUTHEAST OF MONTGOMERY OVER THE SOUTHEAST PART OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY, AND THOSE ARE MOVING AWAY FROM US. IF YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR A FEW DRY DAYS, WELL, IT’S HERE AND IT’S HERE TO LAST FOR A WHILE, TOO, BECAUSE THERE IS NO RAIN WHATSOEVER IN THE FORECAST. WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY, WE’LL ADD SUNDAY AND THEN MAYBE A BRIEF SHOWER OR TWO EARLY NEXT WEEK. BUT THE OVERALL PATTERN IS ONE OF VERY HOT, VERY DRY WEATHER. AND THAT STARTS BUILDING AS EARLY AS FRIDAY. SEE HOW THE WIND IS COMING OUT OF THE NORTH HERE. THAT’S WHAT THOSE LITTLE LINES REPRESENT. THAT’S A BIG WHAT WE CALL A RIDGE DEVELOPING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COUNTRY. BIG AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE. IT DOES TWO PRIMARY THINGS. IT MAKES IT HOT AND IT MAKES IT DRY. THAT’S THE PRIMARY CONTROLLING FACTOR AROUND HERE THROUGH AT LEAST THE FIRST HALF OF THE WEEKEND. BUT THEN THIS TROPICAL WAVE, DEPENDING ON HOW FAR NORTH IT CAN GET AND HOW THAT RIDGE INTERACTS WITH IT, IT MAY PROVIDE AT LEAST A FEW COOLING SHOWERS FOR PARTS OF THE STATE. BUT I REALLY THINK THE CHANCE OF RAIN WOULD BE BETTER WAY SOUTH OF BIRMINGHAM, PROBABLY EVEN MONTGOMERY SOUTHWARD GOING INTO THE WEEKEND. TOMORROW, THE HIGH AT 85 AFTER A BEAUTIFUL MORNING IN THE MORNING LOW AROUND 64. COMING UP ON THURSDAY MORNING. THEN WE START TO HEAT UP. IT’S BACK UP IN THE MID AND UPPER 90S WITH A BIT LESS HUMIDITY GOING I

Cool front brings nicer weather to Alabama
Spotty storms ended Tuesday evening as dry air blows in from the north, and that sets up the coolest night since mid-June. Some Alabamians wake up to fifties by Wednesday morning. Check the video forecast for the latest.SO LONG, HUMIDITY!The anticipated cold front arrived in Alabama early this morning and brought a line of showers and storms to the Tennessee Valley. As it continues to drift south across the state, drier air follows. The humidity has been extremely high lately, but an air mass change is underway as we trade thick, tropical air for something more comfortable into Wednesday and Thursday. It takes some time to sweep the moisture away. Tuesday brought record breaking temperatures to south Alabama while Birmingham's high temperature topped out at 85°. Any chance of storms is now far south of Birmingham. Places along I-85 and south see some heaver storms before sunset as the front moves further south and meets the excessive moisture in the air. Drier air really becomes noticeable tonight and Wednesday morning when temperatures drop to the lower 60s (some upper 50s in the cool valleys in northeastern Alabama) under a clear sky.Wednesday and Thursday mornings feel fantastic, but it is still August. The afternoons get toasty: mid-80s Wednesday, near 90 degrees on Thursday.HEAT WAVE BUILDINGWe have pinpointed Aug. 20 as the pattern change point for quite a while now. That locks in a drier, hotter pattern for most of the Central and East for several days – if not the rest of the month.Ahead of that, the humidity sneaks up again Friday and Saturday, and temperatures rise with it. We’re back to the 90s going into the weekend with a heat index near 100°F.Sunday starts an upswing in the heat that may bring some of Central Alabama’s hottest weather of the year (highest air temperatures, at least). It will all depend on wind direction! A north wind off the land makes us hotter early next week: potentially 100 degrees to 103 degrees for 3 to 5 days. A slight shift to the northeast allows some tropical influence from the Atlantic: more clouds, showers, and less heat.Regardless of that, the daily pounding of severe storms ends this week, and more typical August weather sets in for the rest of the month. That could also mean something of a tropical cyclone nearby between Aug. 23 and Aug. 30. It’s way too soon to "know," but the expected above-average hurricane season may get a jump start over the next two to three weeks.CLICK TO SEE THE 7-DAY FORECASTSTAY WEATHER AWARE For the latest Birmingham weather information and central Alabama's certified most accurate forecast, watch WVTM 13 News.Current Weather ConditionsHourly Forecast | 10-Day ForecastInteractive RadarBirmingham SkycamsLive Doppler RadarSign Up For Email Weather AlertsDownload the WVTM 13 AppDon't forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
