"Refreshing and filling': $55 lobster roll a hit at one state fair this summer
The Iowa State Fair isn't all corn dogs and pork chops. In fact, it's seafood that now sits atop the list of most expensive menu items at the fair.JR’s Southpork Ranch has a variety of lobster rolls, including a footlong version that comes with a $55 price tag, all made with knuckle, leg and claw meat from Maine lobsters, mixed with mayo, dill, shallots, capers, celery, white pepper, salt and lemon juice. “Refreshing and filling, it’s one of the best meals on a really hot day because the lobster is served cool, and the toasted roll provides a nice crunch," Beau Bowman said. "The bacon on the footlong is spectacular.”Glen Biermann, who sang the national anthem at the fair on Friday, said, "Buttery and delicious. And it’s loaded with lots of real Maine lobster.”JR's founder Brooks Reynolds said they've already surpassed the number of lobster rolls sold last year and had to overnight more meat in from Maine. They were approaching 5,100 sold as of Thursday afternoon and expected to reach 7,500-8,000 before the end of the fair."We've gotten great reviews from folks all over the U.S. that are here for the fair," Reynolds said.
