Ochsner Medical Center is the overall No.1-ranked hospital in the state of Louisiana, according to the 2023 U.S. News & World Report’s annual “Best Hospitals” rankings, published today.
Ranking hospitals for more than 30 years, U.S. News has data journalists that analyze millions of hospital visits and admissions at nearly 5,000 hospitals across the nation to identify the best hospitals in 15 adult specialties, 21 procedures and conditions, and 10 pediatric specialties.
Ochsner received three Top 50 national rankings in area specialties. Ochsner is ranked No. 42 out of 4,515 hospitals in ear, nose, and throat care; No. 34 in the nation in pediatric cardiology and heart surgery; and No. 48 in the nation in pediatric orthopedics. In addition, Ochsner received “high-performing” grades in gastroenterology & GI surgery, neurology & neurosurgery, and pulmonology & lung surgery.
Additional greater New Orleans area hospitals receiving “Best Hospitals” high-performing marks in the 2023 U.S. News & World Report:

• East Jefferson General Hospitalreceived six “high-performing” marks in colon cancer surgery, prostate cancer surgery, heart attack procedures, heart failure treatments, stroke treatment, and hip replacement procedures.
• Tulane Health System-New Orleansreceived six “high-performing” marks in leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma condition treatments, prostate cancer surgery, heart attack procedures, heart failure treatments, stroke condition treatments, and kidney failure treatments.
• Touro Infirmaryreceived five “high-performing” marks in prostate cancer surgery, back surgery (spinal fusion) procedures, stroke condition treatments, hip replacement procedures, and knee replacement procedures.
• Tammany Health Systemreceived four “high-performing” marks in heart attack procedures, heart failure treatments, pneumonia treatments, and stroke condition treatments.
• West Jefferson Medical Centerreceived two “high-performing” marks in heart failure treatments and stroke condition treatments.
• Slidell Memorial Hospitalreceived two “high-performing” marks in heart failure treatments and stroke condition treatments.
• Bernard Parish Hospitalreceived one “high-performing” mark in pneumonia treatment.
• Southern Surgical Hospitalreceived one “high-performing” mark in back surgery (spinal fusion) procedures.
• Avala Hospitalreceived one “high-performing” mark in back surgery (spinal fusion) procedures.
