Seasick Records, Classic Cuts Barbershop + more moving to new Lakeview development

A new hub for retail, dining and entertainment is coming soon to Birmingham’s Lakeview district. Dubbed Lakeview Marina, the new development will be anchored by several beloved local businesses—including Seasick Records, Birmingham Classic Cuts Barbershop and Cook Family & Cosmetic Dentistry.

A new development coming to Lakeview

Located in a 20,000-square-foot building at 516 32nd St S, Lakeview Marina is a brand-new, adaptive-reuse development that “prioritizes pedestrianism, sustainability and spaces that encourage community events.”

The development is just a short walk from several of Birmingham’s most popular attractions, including:

• Pepper Place
• The Lakeview Entertainment District
• Lakeview Green
• Rotary Trail
• Sloss Furnaces
• Highland Park Golf Course
• Automatic Seafood
• Taj India
• And more

“Pepper Place was a game changer for Birmingham. I have a lot of admiration for Cathy Sloss Jones and how she had the creativity to see that opportunity.

This development was guided by my memories of what Southside was like in the 80s and 90s, epitomized by spaces like The Garage and Charlemange Records in Five Points South. 

These places meant a lot to me growing up. Our goal with Lakeview Marina is to preserve that unique atmosphere as Birmingham continues to grow.”

Meet Lakeview Marina’s first tenants

Seasick Records, a local independent record store, will be moving from its current location on 4th Avenue South near Avondale to Lakeview Marina.

“As Seasick Records has grown and evolved, we’ve outgrown our current space and have been on the lookout for a new location that will work better for our day-to-day needs.

When [the developer] reached out to us about Lakeview Marina, it felt like a really good fit.

We’ve been planning out how this new space will look and function for over a year now, and we are really excited for the new opportunities.”

Birmingham Classic Cuts Barbershop, a “barbershop for everyone” located inside Seasick Record’s current spot, will be making the move alongside Seasick.

“We are excited to be a part of a new development in Birmingham that values business centered around creativity and art.

This is an exciting new venture for us, and we hope to fill the rest of Lakeview Marina with familiar faces and awesome new ventures in local retail.”

Cook Family Dentistry & Cosmetics, an independent dentistry, has operated out of the location since 2016—and the owners are excited to have new neighbors.

“Cook Dentistry has operated at this location since 2016. This is a safe, vibrant, and fast-growing area of Birmingham.

Many of my patients found me on their daily commute to work, it’s in a very visible location with easy on and off-street parking.”

Lakeview Marina is now leasing

In addition to Seasick Records, Birmingham Classic Cuts Barbershop and Cook Family Dentistry & Comestics, Lakeview Marina is looking for new tenants for its five available retail spaces, ranging from 800 to 6,000 square feet.

“Seasick Records has been in Birmingham for 11 years, and we’ve always tried to be a part of the community and a place where people can dig into music.

Lakeview Marina is a great fit for us and in a part of town that is ripe for development—its an easy-to-find central location that is accessible to people from all over town.

We plan to continue our in-store performances, record signings and other events—and even better than before.”
