NEWSCAST. BUT IF SO, I’LL BE THERE RIGHT WVTM 13, LISA CRANE. ALSO AT THE MET. SHE’S JOINING US WITH MORE ON HOW THE CITY OF HOOVER IS BENEFITING AT THIS TIME, TOO, FROM THE TOURNAMENT. LISA. YEAH, A QUICK DRIVE THROUGH THE PARKING LOT HERE, CHECKING OUT THE LICENSE PLATES. YOU CAN SEE HOW MANY OUT-OF-STATE VISITORS THIS TOURNAMENT ATTRACTS AND THEY ARE SPENDING MONEY IN THIS AREA TOO. HOOVER’S MAYOR SAYS THAT THIS SIX DAY EVENT ACTUALLY PUTS ABOUT $15 MILLION INTO THE LOCAL ECONOMY. HE, JOHNNY ADAMO, MAKES A SIX HOUR TRIP FROM HOME TO LOUISIANA EVERY YEAR FOR THE SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT. HEY, WE CAN’T DO THIS NEAR FOOTBALL SEASON RIGHT? HE SAYS HE’S HAPPY TO SPEND SOME MONEY HERE ON TAILGATING ESSENTIALS. A FEW DOLLARS YET. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE SPENDING THAT A LOT OF ALCOHOL AND ICE? I THAT’S ABOUT IT. A LOT OF VODKA, BEER AND A FEW OTHER WILD DRINKS THERE. YOU CAN WALK TO BROCK’S GAP BREWERY FROM THE MET BECAUSE OF THAT, CO-OWNER JEFF HUMMER SAYS THEY EXPECT TO DOUBLE THEIR SALES DURING THE SIX DAY EVENT, THE SEC TOURNAMENT FOR US IS BASICALLY THE CULMINATION OF EVERYTHING WE LOOK FORWARD TO FOR THE WHOLE YEAR. WHILE WE HAVE SOME REALLY GOOD EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, THIS IS PROBABLY THE BIGGEST IMPACT FOR US. FOR THE OWNER OF I HEART MAC AND CHEESE IN TOWN, THIS TOURNAMENT COULD MAKE OR BREAK HER NEW BUSINESS VENTURE SINCE WE OPENED UP IN DECEMBER, OUR SALES HAVE GRADUALLY DROPPED SOME, WHICH IS, YOU KNOW, TO BE EXPECTED. BUT SO WE’RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS TOURNAMENT, HOPING THAT IT’LL BRING IN MORE BUSINESS FOR US. AND AND AND ALLOW US TO STAY OPEN. HOOVER’S MAYOR SAYS THE CITY PUTS ITS BEST FOOT FORWARD FOR THIS EVENT, HOPING TO MAKE A LASTING IMPRESSION ON VISITORS. THE BEST WEEK OF THE YEAR JUST GREAT, JUST PERFECT WITH THE SEC TOURNAMENT. BEAUTIFUL TOWN. WELL, THE TOURNAMENT IS COMMITTED TO BE HERE IN HOOVER THROUGH NEXT YEAR, BUT THE MAYOR TELLS ME HE’S ALREADY IN NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE SEC TO KEEP IT BEYOND 2024. LI
