Rain returns to Alabama's forecast Sunday, with temperatures climbing through next week
FIRST, THIS IS WVTM 13 WEATHER. WELL, AFTER A CLOUDY DAY, THE RAIN HAS FINALLY STARTED TO ENTER ALABAMA. WE’RE TAKING A LIVE LOOK NOW IN TUSCALOOSA, WHERE WE SEE PLENTY OF RAINDROPS HERE ON THE TOWERS APARTMENTS. SKY CAMERA. TEMPERATURES ARE SITTING AT 48 DEGREES RIGHT NOW, SO A BIT CHILLY IN THE AIR, BUT AROUND NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. WE’RE LOOKING AT WVTM 13 LIVE DOPPLER AND WE ARE TRACKING SOME SHOWERS. RAIN AND MUCH OF TUSCALOOSA COUNTY AS WE SPEAK FROM TUSCALOOSA DOWN TOWARDS I-20, TUSCALOOSA AIRPORT, NORTHPORT INDIAN HILLS AS FAR NORTH AS FLATWOODS CHURCH, HUNTINGTON PLACE, LAKE LURLEEN ALONG HIGHWAY 171, HIGHWAY 43, AND HIGHWAY 69, BUT TUSCALOOSA AND TUSCALOOSA COUNTY AREN’T THE ONLY ONES SEEING RAIN RIGHT NOW. MUCH OF WEST ALABAMA IS SEEING JUST THAT, EXTENDING AS FAR EAST AS PARTS OF BLOUNT COUNTY, SAINT CLAIR COUNTY, DOWN TOWARDS TALLADEGA COUNTY, SOON TO ENGULF ALL OF CHILTON COUNTY AND JUST CONTINUE PUSHING EASTWARD FARTHER SOUTH. IF YOU’RE DRIVING ALONG I-20 OR EVEN I-65, MAKE SURE YOU TAKE IT NICE AND SLOW ON THE ROADWAYS WHERE YOU’RE GOING TO EXPECT ALL OF THIS RAIN TO CONTINUE TO PUSH EASTWARD OVERNIGHT INTO EARLY TOMORROW MORNING. HERE’S A LOOK AT THE FUTURECAST. THIS IS 10:00 TONIGHT, AND WE’RE STILL SEEING A GOOD SWATH OF RAIN OVER MUCH OF ALABAMA. AND NOW WE’RE LOOKING AT 7 A.M. MONDAY. WE’RE NOT EXPECTING ANY THUNDERSTORMS, BUT WE COULD SEE THE OCCASIONAL DOWNPOURS, ESPECIALLY THE FARTHER SOUTH YOU ARE. AS OF 7 A.M., IT LOOKS LIKE SOME SOME OF OUR NORTH AND WESTERN COUNTIES EXTENDING FROM MARION, WINSTON, CULLMAN COUNTY, LAMAR, FAYETTE, JASPER COUNTIES. YOU GUYS COULD BE DRY AT THIS POINT. AND THEN BY 10 A.M., I THINK MOST OF CENTRAL ALABAMA WILL BE DRY. THEN COOLER, DRIER AIR IS GOING TO COME IN FROM THE NORTH. HIGHS TOMORROW WILL BE IN THE 50S ACROSS THE BOARD FROM 48 AND TO 48. ONEONTA TO 56. IN SYLACAUGA TO 54. IN ALEXANDER CITY. BUT THAT COOLER, DRIER AIR FROM THE NORTHWEST REALLY STARTS TO COOL US DOWN OVERNIGHT. AND THIS IS TUESDAY MORNING, 6 A.M. TEMPERATURES NEAR FREEZING. I THINK MOST SPOTS WILL STAY ABOVE FREEZING, BUT WE COULD GET AS LOW AS 30 IN GADSDEN 30 AND ANNISTON 32, IN ALEXANDER CITY, 31 IN CALERA AND 31 DEGREES IN TUSCALOOSA. THAT WILL ACTUALLY BE THE COOLEST OF THE WORKWEEK. AND THEN TUESDAY AFTERNOON WE’LL SEE PLENTY OF SUNSHINE, A FEW CLOUDS OUT THERE, BUT THE WARM, MOIST AIR COMES BACK INTO PLAY WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. WE’RE TALKING ABOUT OVERCAST SKIES. CAN’T RULE OUT A FEW ISOLATED SHOWERS, BUT NOT TALKING ABOUT A WASHOUT. AND THEN WE HAVE A HIGHER RAIN CHANCE AS WE MAKE OUR WAY INTO FRIDAY, AND POTENTIALLY EVEN SATURDAY MORNING TOO, WHEN EVERYTHING IS ALL SAID AND DONE. WE’RE NOT TALKING ABOUT ANY TYPE OF SEVERE WEATHER, BUT WE COULD SEE SOME RAINFALL TOTALS EXTENDING FROM AN INCH IN EAST ALABAMA ALL THE WAY UP TO OVER TWO INCHES IN PARTS OF SOUTHWEST ALABAMA. HERE’S A LOOK AT YOUR SEVEN DAY FORECAST ONE MORE TIME. AS YOU CAN SEE, RAIN CHANCES NEXT WEEKEND. BUT BY SUNDAY WE SHOULD BE MOSTLY CLEAR WITH LOTS OF SUNSHINE. HIGH

Sunday is cool, damp and mostly cloudy. The return of milder weather will also bring some rain through next week. Check the video forecast for the latest. SHOWERS LINGER MONDAYWidespread rain stretches across Alabama this evening and overnight. Storms are unlikely to develop due to a lack of instability, but rain could be heavy at times. Rain will end as early as 6 a.m. Monday in spots like Lamar, Marion, Winston, Fayette and Walker counties. The rain dries out by 10 a.m. for the rest of central Alabama. Following the rain, highs will climb to the mid-50s Monday afternoon. Then, cooler, drier air will enter Alabama from the northwest. Once the sun comes back on Tuesday, we will finally get a real warmup. That happens in the first seven days of February. How much rain? We expect around 1-2" of rain through the end of next week, but a large part of West Alabama and Mississippi could get more than 3 inches of rain through the first week of February.
