Taj India moving to former Bogue’s Restaurant location

Taj India, the popular Indian restaurant on Highland Avenue is staying in Birmingham’s Southside.

According to a sign posted on their storefront window the restaurant is moving to the former Bogue’s Restaurant location at 3120 Clairmont Avenue South.

Oldest in Alabama

Taj India, one of the oldest Indian restaurants in Alabama, has been a mainstay at the Highland location for nearly three decades. 

John Chapman, owner of Farris Properties and the former Bogue’s Restaurant building sent Bham Now a statement confirming the move, “We are pleased to welcome Taj to their new home on Clairmont and keep this institutuion in the neighborhood amd a part of our community.”

The relocation of the popular restaurant was inevitable after the Birmingham City Council voted in January to rezone Highland Plaza—the former site of the Western Supermarket on Highland Avenue—to make way for approximately 272 “for rent” apartment units and a limited amount of retail. 

Developers announced plans to demolish the former Highland Plaza site this summer.

Highland Package moving too

In addition to Taj India’s relocation, Highland Package Store is also moving to Midtown at 109 20th Street South. At last Wednesday’s, City of Birmingham Design Review Committee meeting, the package store received approval for it signage at its new location.
