WHEN THEY GOT THERE, THEY SAY THAT THE TEEN WAS INTOXICATED AND BEHAVING ERRATICALLY. POLICE THEN FOUND A HANDGUN ON THE TABLE. THE OFFICE OF THE MEDICAL INVESTIGATOR IS STILL IDENTIFYING THE VICTIMS. THE TEEN IS STILL BEING HELD AT A LOCAL HOSPITAL FOR DETOX.

A 16-year-old boy in New Mexico has been charged with killing four members of his family, state police said Sunday.Diego Leyva, 16, called 911 at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday to report that he had killed his family at their home in Belen, police said. Leyva surrendered himself to deputies after they arrived at the scene, according to officials. He was "extremely intoxicated" and was taken into custody, police said.Four people were found dead inside the home, and a handgun was found on the kitchen table, according to police. The victims have been identified as 42-year-old Leonardo Leyva, 35-year-old Adriana Bencomo, and two of Leyva's brothers, aged 16 and 14. Leyva has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder. He was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center in Albuquerque after being medically cleared at a regional hospital. State police investigators and a crime scene team are now processing the scene and conducting interviews to learn what led to these events, said the state police. Once the investigation is completed, it will go to the district attorney’s office for prosecution.One of the victims, Adriana, had served for many years as an active volunteer firefighter, said the Valencia County Fire Department in a statement.
