Teen suspect jumps in lake during vehicle chase in Cherokee County

Two juveniles were taken into custody, following a vehicle and foot pursuit in Cherokee County.The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) said a stolen vehicle from Mississippi had been spotted in the Leesburg area, occupied by two underage people reported missing from Tennessee.Deputies located the vehicle near Cedar Bluff and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused and a pursuit began, said the sheriff's office.The CCSO reported the suspect vehicle was damaged and stopped, and that's when one person was arrested on site, and the driver started running away.Law enforcement chased the suspect near homes, as the suspect attempted to find a vehicle to make a getaway.The sheriff's office said officers converged on the area and found and arrested the suspect after he jumped into a lake.The CCSO said the 17-year-old suspect has been charged with attempting to elude and two counts of robbery.The other juvenile was turned over to juvenile probation and will be taken back to Tennessee, said the sheriff's office.Stay up-to-date: The latest headlines and weather from WVTM 13
