Below is a list of new amendments, acts and changes coming to the state.

New training for firefighters, medical personnel

The Abram Colin Act mandates that Alabama fire-protection personnel, volunteer firefighters, and emergency medical services personnel undergo regular training on interacting with individuals with sensory needs and invisible disabilities/disabilities that are not immediately apparent.

House Bill 287 establishes separate personnel merit systems, separate human resource departments and separate personnel appeals boards for Montgomery County and the city of Montgomery.

House Bill 350 creates the Alabama Uniform Commercial Real Estate Receivership Act which establishes requirements and the authority of a receiver appointed by a court for the management of commercial real estate during certain legal matters.

A receiver is a person appointed by a court to manage a property that is in default or distress.

Senate Bill 240 updates Alabama's mental health commitment procedures, giving probate judges the power to:

  • Authorize the involuntary commitment of individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders secondary to mental illness.

  • Determine the appropriate medical evaluation process for the respondent
