Tropical Depression Nine expected to strengthen before reaching Texas

ALL RIGHT. LET’S TALK ABOUT THE FORECAST HERE. REALLY A NICE DAY OUT THERE. WASN’T TOO BAD WHEN YOU WENT OUTSIDE. OF COURSE, HOT, THOUGH. THE ODD THING ABOUT THIS IS THE TEMPERATURE IS GETTING HOTTER THAN IT HAS BEEN ALL SUMMER, BUT THE HUMIDITY IS A LITTLE BIT LOWER THAN IT WAS A FEW WEEKS AGO. AND IT IT BALANCES OUT TO SOME DEGREE. THE FEELS LIKE IS ONLY 100. A FEW WEEKS AGO, WE WOULD HAVE BEGGED FOR IT FEELS LIKE AT 100 AND NOW IT’S JUST THE MATTER OF WE’RE COMING UP TO IT AFTER HAVING HAD A LITTLE BIT OF A BELOW AVERAGE START TO THE MONTH OF AUGUST, ESPECIALLY THE LAST 5 TO 6 DAYS, WARM AND MUGGY TONIGHT. LOOK, IT DOESN’T REALLY DROP BELOW 80 UNTIL AFTER MIDNIGHT. AND TOMORROW MORNING. WHAT A START. ALREADY IN THE UPPER 70S. BY THE TIME BUSSES ARE ROLLING ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA TOMORROW AFTERNOON, A FEW DEGREES HOTTER THAN TODAY SO FAR. WE’VE BEEN TO 95. TOMORROW ROE IS OUR STEP UP TO 97 WITH A FEELS-LIKE AT 105 PLUS. AND THAT’S WHY THERE IS A HEAT ADVISORY UP. SO HERE’S THE STARTING POINT AND YOU CAN JUST TELL BY THE COLORS ON THE MAP WHERE WE HAVE THE HOTTEST WEATHER FROM THE BLACK BELT REGION EUTAW DOWN TO NEWBERN, UP TO CENTREVILLE, CLANTON AND THEN INTO THE BIRMINGHAM METRO 77 AT HOMEWOOD AT 6:00 IN THE MORNING. BUT FROM ROSA TO BAILEYTON ATTALLA, THIS IS STILL NOT ALL THAT BAD. SO WE’RE STILL FEELING THE IMPACT SOMEWHAT OF A WETTER GROUND ACROSS NORTHEAST ALABAMA AND DRIER CONDITIONS TO THE SOUTHWEST, BUT IT WILL NOT TAKE LONG FOR THAT AUGUST SUNSHINE TO JUST COMPLETELY BAKE ALL THAT MOISTURE OUT AND GET RID OF SOME OF THE GREEN FOLIAGE AND THE BRIGHT GREEN GRASS THAT WE HAVE. CAN ALREADY START TO SEE IT IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD A LITTLE BIT. IF FOLKS AREN’T USING THE SPRINKLERS, THE GRASS IS GETTING A LITTLE CRUNCHY. WE’RE AT 97 AND HOMEWOOD TOMORROW 98 HELENA 100 IN BIBB COUNTY AND CLOSE TO 100 DOWN AROUND NEWBERN AS WELL. HEAT ADVISORY FOR EVERYBODY. EXCEPT BLOUNT, ETOWAH, CALHOUN, CLEBURNE AND CHEROKEE COUNTIES AS WELL AS JACKSON AND DEKALB IN NORTHEAST ALABAMA. THIS HAS MORE TO DO WITH THE HEAT INDEX THAN IT DOES THE TEMPERATURE BEING HOT. IT’S STILL GOING TO BE HOT. YES, BUT RIGHT NOW WE’RE THINKING THE HEAT INDEX AND A LITTLE BIT BELOW THE HEAT ADVISORY CRITERIA AROUND GADSDEN AND ANNISTON 104 105 IS THAT MAGIC BENCHMARK THAT GETS YOU TO A HEAT ADVISORY. SO 107 IS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE IN BIRMINGHAM TOMORROW AND 108 IN TUSCALOOSA. THINGS ARE GOING TO START TO CHANGE, THOUGH, OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. THE BIG HEAT RIDGE STARTS PULLING AWAY. THAT’S WHAT THAT BIG RED BLOB IS OUT TO THE WEST AND A STORMIER PATTERN WILL START TO DEVELOP FROM ALABAMA NORTHEAST. BUT SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDDLE BETWEEN THESE TWO, IT JUST DOESN’T RAIN ALL THAT MUCH. AND THAT’S ONE OF THE REASONS THAT THIS NEW TROPICAL SYSTEM IN THE GULF OF MEXICO IS NOT COMING. THIS WAY. A NORTHERLY FLOW WILL PREVENT IT. TROPICAL DEPRESSION NUMBER NINE, FROM MAKING MUCH OF AN IMPACT AROUND THE GULF COAST OTHER THAN JUST SIMPLY GETTING SOME ROUGH SURF AROUND GULF SHORES, ORANGE BEACH, THIS THING GOES INTO TEXAS, BRINGING THEM SOME BENEFICIAL RAIN. BUT FOR US, IT’S JUST GOING TO STAY HOT. WE’VE GOT IMPACT WEATHER ON TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. ALL OF THESE DAYS HERE, THE HEAT INDEX COULD BE HIGHER THAN 105 DEGREES. AND OUR HOTTEST DAY LOOKS TO BE FRIDAY. AT THIS POINT, WE’RE FORECASTING 102 WITH AN OVERNIGHT LOW, BARELY GETTING BELOW 80. AT LEAST WE GET THE CHANCE OF A FEW STORMS STARTING SATURDAY, SUNDAY GOING INTO MONDAY. AND THAT SHOULD HELP TO GIVE US A LITTLE PRESSURE VALVE REL
