VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (WIAT) -- Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights celebrated its 100th birthday Friday.
The community came out to celebrate with a special reception. It featured a living history museum, which included items from former and current students plus the community. The school opened in 1924.
A kindergarten teacher at the school who has been there for 39 years said she taught some of the parents of the students she's instructing now.
"I love the kids, of course," said Kindergarten teacher Jupie Lindley. "I love to see them grow, and they get to stay here five years, and you can see them progress, and I love the parents. The school and community have a family relationship, and so we all take care of each other and love each other, and it's just a sweet, sweet place to be."
Officials also dedicated a time capsule at the school's butterfly garden.
