The drama early in the NBA Draft was with the second overall pick.
The Charlotte Hornets drafted former Alabama star Brandon Miller - not Scoot Henderson. As you can see by the reaction at Charlotte’s Pinhouse duckpin bowling alley and taproom, fans felt some sort of way about the decision to go with Miller.
The reaction wasn’t much better at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center either.
The Hornets chose Miller, the SEC’s player of the year as a freshman, over NBA G League Ignite star Henderson.

The Hornets targeted just two players leading up to the draft, and general manager Mitch Kupchak said the team would take the best player available instead of selecting for need.
Still, Miller appears to be a much better immediate fit for Charlotte given the current makeup of the roster.
Miller ties the highest draft selection in school history. He joins Antonio McDyess, the No. 2 pick in the 1995 draft going to the Los Angeles Clippers. Miller was the third lottery pick of the Nate Oats era, joining Kira Lewis (13th in 2020) and Josh Primo (12th in 2021).
