'We've seen improvements': 42% of Birmingham City Schools improve letter grade

THE NUMBER OF SCHOOLS RECEIVING AN A ON THE REPORT CARD INCREASED 42% OF THE DISTRICT’S 43 SCHOOLS IMPROVED. THEIR LETTER GRADE. AT LEAST THREE SCHOOLS IMPROVED FROM AN F TO A C, BUT SEVEN SCHOOLS RECEIVED AN F FOR THEIR LETTER GRADE. THAT NUMBER IS DOWN COMPARED TO LAST YEAR. TEACHERS WORKING FOR THE SCHOOL SYSTEM SAY IT’S GOING TO TAKE TIME TO GET EVERY SCHOOL TO THE GRADE OF AN A, YOU HAVE TO MIX A LITTLE BIT OF THE OLD SCHOOL WITH THE NEW. YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT WORKS, WHAT WORKS FOR LITTLE JOHNNY MAY NOT WORK FOR SALLY, BUT WE HAVE TO GET EVERYBODY. WE HAVE TO DO WHAT WORKS FOR EVERYBODY. Birmingham City Schools hosted a press conference to discuss the school district’s report card and student achievements. The school system says it's seen improvements made.

The number of schools receiving an "A" on the report card increased, and 42% of the district’s 43 schools improved their letter grade.

At least three schools improved from an "F" to a "C," but seven schools received the grade of "F."

That number is down compared to 15 from last year. Teachers working for the school system say it’s going to take time to get every school to the grade of "A."
