Will it snow in Central Alabama next week?
IN THE FRESH AIR, BEAUTIFUL SKY, IT WON’T BE AS COLD TONIGHT EITHER. WE’RE IN THE 30S INSTEAD OF THE 20S, SO EARLY TOMORROW MORNING IT MAY BE A LITTLE BIT OF AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO SEE THE METEOR SHOWER, BUT MOST OF US ARE GOING TO SEE SOME CLOUDS GETTING IN THE WAY TONIGHT. BUT IF YOU GET THAT TONIGHT, IF YOU DON’T SEE IT, YOU WILL STILL HAVE OTHER OPPORTUNITIES. WITH THE CLEAR SKY COMING UP TOMORROW NIGHT, BUT LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE COLDER BY THAT POINT. 52 RIGHT NOW IN BIRMINGHAM, WITH A MOSTLY CLEAR SKY. RAIN IS NOT ON THE WAY, BUT CLOUDS WILL THICKEN UP THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS ABOUT 37 BEFORE MIDNIGHT. 34 IN BIRMINGHAM TOMORROW MORNING. A LITTLE COOLER IN PLACES LIKE GADSDEN, OHATCHEE AND CENTRE, WHERE I STILL THINK WE MAY BRIEFLY DIP INTO THE UPPER 20S. AND THEN TOMORROW AFTERNOON WE’LL TOP OUT CLOSE TO 52, WHICH IS RIGHT WHERE WE HAVE BEEN TODAY. TOMORROW WILL ALSO BE A LITTLE MORE BREEZY THAN TODAY WAS. THE WIND KICKS IN FROM THE NORTHWEST IS ANOTHER COLD FRONT SLIDES THROUGH SO 30 IN THE MORNING, 50 IN THE AFTERNOON. AT LEAST IN JEFFERSON COUNTY WE GET TO AROUND 50 AT BESSEMER, BUT HIGHER ELEVATIONS LIKE TRUSSVILLE. WE MAY STRUGGLE TO GET OUT OF THE 40S IN COLEMAN TO ARLEY IN THE UPPER 40S LOWER 50S AROUND CLANTON GREENSBORO AND THEN ANNISTON RIGHT AT 50 DEGREES ON THE NOSE. TOMORROW, SATURDAY IS GOING TO BE A PRETTY CHILLY ONE TOO. THE HIGH ABOUT 46. AND LOOK AT THAT WIND CHILL EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. EVEN THOUGH THE TEMPERATURE IS IN THE UPPER 20S, THE FEELS LIKE IN A FEW SPOTS COULD BE AS LOW AS THE LOW 20S AND WIND ONLY ABOUT 5 TO 10MPH MAKES THAT HAPPEN. THEN LOOK AT THIS. WE GO. SUNDAY, MONDAY AND TUESDAY. ALL IMPACT DAYS FOR DIFFERENT REASONS. SO LET’S START WITH SUNDAY HERE, 40 TO 50 MILE PER HOUR WIND GUSTS ARE POSSIBLE. UP TO AN INCH OF RAIN. AND WHILE THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER DOES OUTLINE A RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER, MAINLY WEST OF ALABAMA, THE RISK OF ANY THUNDERSTORMS ARE PRETTY LOW. THIS IS MAINLY JUST THE WIND THAT COMES IN WITH THE COLD FRONT. SO THERE’S THE OUTLOOK FROM THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER, A LIMITED RISK, VERY LOW RISK OF A SEVERE STORM OVER MISSISSIPPI OR FAR WESTERN ALABAMA THAT WOULD INCLUDE PARTS OF FRANKLIN AND MARION, LAMAR, FAYETTE, PICKENS, GREENE, AS WELL AS SUMTER AND CHOCTAW COUNTIES IN SOUTHWEST ALABAMA. THIS IS NOT LIKE WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND, NOT EVEN IN THE SAME BALLPARK, BUT THE WIND WILL BE MORE SIGNIFICANT. JUST OVERALL. WATCH THIS 6:00 SUNDAY MORNING. IT’S ALREADY A CHILLY BREEZE. AND THEN AS THE DAY GOES ON, THE GREENER THE MAP GETS. THE BLUSTERY, BLUSTERY, MORE BLUSTERY. THE WIND IS ABOUT 39MPH IN COLEMAN 40MPH. HAMILTON AT 1:00 IN THE AFTERNOON AND IT CONTINUES TO INCREASE TO THE POINT THAT WE MAY HAVE SOME 50 OR 55 MILE PER HOUR GUSTS OVERNIGHT INTO EARLY MONDAY MORNING, SO PREPARE FOR SPORADIC POWER OUTAGES. THEN IN COMES THE COLD. IT WILL FEEL LIKE IT’S IN THE TEENS AND 20S ON BOTH MONDAY AND TUESDAY. HERE’S THAT WARMTH EARLY MONDAY MORNING AS THE COLD FRONT PASSES. BUT THEN WATCH WHAT HAPPENS MONDAY AFTERNOON. WE TAKE A DIVE. 10:00 THE FEELS LIKE IN BIRMINGHAM IS IN THE 20S. 4:00 ON MONDAY. THE FEELS LIKE TEMP WILL BE IN THE 20S AND THEN LOOK UP TO THE NORTH. A SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM IS LIKELY NEAR INTERSTATE 70. NOW, WHILE WE MIGHT HAVE A FEW FLAKES THAT GET INTO NORTH ALABAMA BY MONDAY AFTERNOON, I DON’T EXPECT ANYTHING SIGNIFICANT AROUND HERE YET. BUT THE CLIMATE PREDICTION CENTER CPC, A BRANCH OF NOAA, HAS BEEN OUTLINING A GOOD CHUNK OF ALABAMA, MISSISSIPPI, TENNESSEE AND GEORGIA WITH A SLIGHT RISK OF SOME HEAVY SNOW. NOW, WHAT DOES HEAVY SNOW MEAN? WELL, FOR US, THAT WOULD BE ABOUT 1 OR 2IN OF SNOW. AND IT’S JUST BEYOND THE SEVEN DAY FORECAST. BUT CHECK THIS OUT 39 MONDAY. THE FEELS LIKE IN THE TEENS AND 20S, 36 ON TUESDAY. WHERE DO YOU SEE THAT? WEDNESDAY? THURSDAY HIGHS ARE GOING TO BE IN THE 30S. LOWS AS COLD AS THE TEENS BY THURSDAY MORNING. AND WE MAY BARELY GET ABOVE FREEZING IN BIRMINGHAM. A LOT OF COMMUNITIES IN NORTH ALABAMA COULD FALL BELOW FREEZING WEDNESDAY AND NOT COME ABOVE IT AGAIN. POTENTIALLY UNTIL SOM
