Woman dies after falling from moving vehicle in Jefferson County

A woman was killed Friday after deputies say she jumped onto a moving vehicle and fell off in McCalla.Jefferson County deputies responded around 2:30 p.m. to a report that a woman had been struck by a vehicle in the 5800 block of Old Huntsville Road.When they arrived, they discovered that this was not the case of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. They learned that there had been an argument between the 36-year-old woman and another woman. The second woman was leaving the house with another person in a minivan.Deputies say as the driver started to pull away, the first woman jumped onto the side of the moving vehicle, lost her footing and fell. Medical personnel on the scene said the fall caused significant head trauma and pronounced her dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.Jefferson County Sheriff’s detectives are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. Evidence will be presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office to determine if any criminal charges are warranted.
