ASSESSMENTS IN KIDS. IN IOWA, WOMAN WHO RODE RAGBRAI BEFORE GETTING A DOUBLE LUNG TRANSPLANT IS BACK HOME TONIGHT. ALL RIGHT. THAT’S BARB HEENAN. SHE WALKED OUT OF THE HOSPITAL YESTERDAY JUST IN TIME TO MAKE IT HOME FOR CHRISTMAS. SHE HAS SCLERODERMA, WHICH LED TO THE DOUBLE LUNG TRANSPLANT. SHE RODE RAGBRAI THIS YEAR WITH HER OXYGEN TANKS. A REMARKABLE WOMAN, 242 MILES IN TOTAL. WE SPOKE TO BARB WHILE SHE WAS WAITING TO FIND OUT IF THIS DAY WOULD EVER COME. I’M OUT HERE RAISING AWARENESS FOR SCLERODERMA, WHICH IS AN AUTOIMMUNE, CHRONIC AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE THAT IS PROGRESSIVE, THAT I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH 30 YEARS AGO. SO THIS HAS BEEN A LONG TIME COMING. SO I’M PREPARING FOR A DOUBLE LUNG TRANSPLANT. WE ACTUALLY FIND OUT NEXT WEEK. BARB’S HUSBAND SAYS HE ASKED HER IF SHE WANTED A WHEELCHAIR. SHE SAID NO. SHE WALKED IN THE HOSPITAL THREE WEEKS AGO
