"Worship in Blue" service held at Birmingham church

NO ONE IS IN CUSTODY. MEANTIME, BIRMINGHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT’S FAITH AND BLUE WEEKEND WILL COME TO AN END TOMORROW. EACH YEAR, THE DEPARTMENT PARTICIPATES IN THE NATIONAL HOLIDAY TO BRING COMMUNITIES, OFFICERS AND RESIDENTS TOGETHER THROUGH LOCAL CHURCHES WITH FREE EVENTS. YESTERDAY, A PRAYER BREAKFAST WAS HELD AT GREATER SHILOH MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH IN THE WEST END NEIGHBORHOOD. WORSHIP IN BLUE SERVICE WAS HELD TODAY IN THE GRAYMONT NEIGHBORHOOD AT TRINITY BAPTIST CHURCH, ALONG WITH A BACK THE BLUE DAY. THE CHURCH PASTOR EXPLAINS WHY TODAY’S SERVICE WAS A SHOW OF APPRECIATION FOR THE OFFICERS WHO SERVE AND PROTECT. IT’S AN OPPORTUNITY TO HONOR AND SHOW OUR APPRECIATION FOR THOSE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND TO SHOW OUR LOVE AND APPRECIATION FOR THEM AND WHAT THEY DO. SHOW OUR CONCERN FOR THEM, TO PRAY FOR THEM TO WORSHIP WITH THEM, TO SERVE THEM AND JUST TO ENCOURAGE THE COMMUNITY TO SUPPORT LAW ENFORCEMENT, TO ALSO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO NOT ONLY SUPPORT LAW ENFORCEMENT, BUT TO STOP THE VIOLENCE AND STOP THE SILENCE. AND LET’S ADDRESS THE ISSUES THAT WE HAVE IN OUR COMMUNITY HERE IN BIRMINGHAM. PASTOR KING SAYS HE HOPES HIS CONGREGATION KNOWS THEY HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO SUPPORT LAW ENFORCEMENT, AND ACKNOWLEDGING THEY ARE PARTNERS. AS THE CITY STRIVES FOR PEACE. BIRMINGHAM’S POLICE CHIEF, SCOTT THURMAN, WAS ALSO IN ATTENDANCE FOR WORSHIP IN BLUE. HE SHARED HIS THOUGHTS ON WHAT THIS WEEKEND MEANS, WHAT THIS WEEKEND RATHER MEANS FOR OFFICERS. WELL, I THINK IT REALLY LETS OFFICERS KNOW AND I SAID IT YESTERDAY WHEN WE WERE AT AT ONE OF THE OTHER RELIGIOUS ESTABLISHMENTS, WAS THAT JUST LETTING THEM KNOW THAT THEY’RE THERE FOR US? YOU KNOW, AND THAT’S WHAT I THINK YESTERDAY WAS THE CONGREGATION FOR BEING THERE. AND IT JUST MEANS A LOT WHEN YOU HAVE A HUGE TURNOUT TO SUPPORT US. AND JUST IT MAKES IT ALL WORTH IT. AT THE END OF THE DAY, CHIEF THURMAN BELIEVES FAITH IS JUST AS IMPORTANT NOT ONLY TO OFFICERS, BUT TO EVERYONE IN THE COMMUNITY. MOVIE NIGHT AT THE STAR CHURCH IN THE EASTLAKE NEIGHBORHOOD TOMORROW WILL MARK
