Newly exposed chat messages demonstrate racist, xenophobic, misogynistic and antisemitic comments by Young Republican leaders throughout the country, according to Politico.

“They referred to Black people as monkeys and “the watermelon people” and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers,” Politico reported. “They talked about raping their enemies and driving them to suicide and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.”

The messages were part of Telegram chats that Politico obtained involving MAGA-aligned Young Republican leaders in New York, Vermont, Kansas and Arizona.

The 2,900 pages of chats were shared from early January to mid-August.

Several of the people involved in the chats were identified as:

  • Peter Giunta, former chair of the New York State Young Republicans
  • Bobby Walker, former vice chair of the New York State Young Republicans.
  • Samuel Douglass, a Vermont state senator and the head of Vermont’s Young Republicans
  • Alex Dwyer, chair of the Kansas Young Republicans
  • William Hendrix, vice chair of the Kansas Young Republicans
  • Annie Kaykaty, New York national committee member

Walker appeared cognizant of how inflammatory many of the messages were and said that, “If we ever had a leak of this chat we would be cooked fr fr.”

According to Politico, throughout the chats members routinely used slurs, often said that, “Epithets like “f----t,” “r.....ed” and “n--ga” appeared more than 251 times combined.”

Other messages included anti-Semitic jokes approving of “gas chambers”, saying “I love Hitler” and so on.

Although the report does not mention any Alabama Young Republican leaders being involved in the chats, the Young Republican Federation of Alabama reposted a statement on Facebook from the national Young Republican Federation.

“We are appalled by the vile and inexcusable language revealed in the Politico article published today,” the statement said.

“Such behavior is disgraceful, unbecoming of any Republican, and stands in direct opposition to the values our movement represents. Those involved must immediately resign from all positions within their state and local Young Republican organizations. We must hold ourselves to the highest standards of integrity, respect, and professionalism.”

Several participants in the chat including Giunta and Walker have publicly apologized for the messages while others have lost their jobs and even deactivated their social media accounts.
