Youngest press secretary Karoline Leavitt outlines Trump’s second-term plans
You're about to enter one of the most high profile positions in the US government. How do you prepare for that? Well, it's incredibly humbling and it's an honor that President Trump has chosen me to speak on behalf on his behalf and on behalf of the United States government, as you said. I've been working for President Trump for quite some time now, and he's *** great boss, and I feel very excited about this opportunity because he has an overwhelming mandate from the American people to implement. The policies he campaigned on, there's overwhelming support for his common sense solutions to secure the border and bring down the cost of living. And so I look forward to messaging his policies to Americans at home who are very eager for these changes to come. Caroline, you also, you were in the first White House for President Trump. What are you expecting to be different this time? Well, certainly there feels to be *** different energy here in Washington DC. The whole world is on President Trump's side. It really feels that way and you see people from Silicon Valley, big tech, Wall Street to Main Street coming out in support of President Trump. I was at President Trump's golf club last night, and Jeff Bezos was there, so there is *** real shift, and I think all Americans are realizing it's time to get behind President Trump. We have *** lot of work to do as ***. Country and he's the man to do it at this moment in time and we saw during the campaign the Trump campaign really used non-traditional media, *** lot of local news. Is that going to play into how the press room runs in this new White House? We appreciate local news. That's why I'm doing this interview with you today. And so certainly we have been looking at ways that we can incorporate local news, non-traditional voices, podcasters, social influencers, and so we'll be taking *** hard look at that. Um, and, uh, more announcements to come. OK, uh, and then, you know, obviously you're from the Granite State, uh, we know you from your time up there. How did New Hampshire primary CNAs, how did the New Hampshire background influence kind of, you know, your experience here in getting to become the White House press secretary? I wouldn't be standing before you if I hadn't grown up in the great state of New Hampshire, uh, in going to Saint Anselm College exposed me to this crazy world of. News media and politics, and I'm forever grateful for the opportunities that the hilltop gave to me in my life that have now led to this incredible opportunity. New Hampshire is so special. I've been so overwhelmed with gratitude by the outreach of support that I've heard from friends and family, former classmates and neighbors back home. So I miss home already, but we'll be back in 4 short years. All right, so lastly, Carolyn. You know, New Hampshire's *** purple state. There's people who voted for Trump. There's people who didn't vote for Trump. What's your message to them as you guys begin your new administration. President Trump is going to be *** leader for all Americans regardless if you voted red or blue. He wants to truly unify this country through success. Those are his words, not mine, and you're going to see him do that. In his inaugural speech, you'll hear him talk about how he wants us to enter *** new golden age of America where people's hope in this country is. Restored where common sense policies of law and order and border security are happening again and where American families can have *** real chance at living the American dream where you go to the grocery store and you're not putting things back on the shelves because you can't afford them. That's the America we're living in unfortunately right now. But President Trump wants to change that for all Americans regardless of race or religion or creed. So for President Trump to that end, are we going to see the same President Trump we saw first term with the Tweets and everything or should we expect kind of *** newer Trump? Donald Trump will always be Donald Trump, but with that said, I think President Trump is more focused and disciplined on the mission to make this country great than ever, knowing he has *** 4 year time clock that will run out. And so I know having speaking to him every day, he is very focused to get to work immediately and you'll see *** lot of that work take place on day one. Caroline, thanks so much for chatting with us. Absolutely, thank you.
