RECUSE HIMSELF. MEANTIME, THE BIRMINGHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT SAYS IT IS MAKING MAJOR STRIDES IN TACKLING THERE OFFICER SHORTAGE. THIS MORNING, 75 PEOPLE SHOWED UP FOR THE DEPARTMENT’S PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST. THAT NUMBER NEARLY DOUBLED FROM LAST WEEK’S 43 ATTENDEES. IN TOTAL. THE DEPARTMENT SAYS THEY HAVE MORE THAN 110 APPLICANTS NOW ENTERING THE HIRING PROCESS BEFORE THE POLICE ACADEMY STARTS THIS SPRING. THE APPLICANTS, HOWEVER, WILL STILL HAVE TO PASS SOME MORE TESTS BEFORE THEY ARE CLEAR

Dozens of people are undergoing testing to become new police officers in Birmingham.The Birmingham Police Department said 75 people attended Saturday's testing at the Birmingham Police Academy.The police department said that 43 people tested last week, bringing the total to 110 applicants who may enter the hiring process for the March 2025 academy class.The applicants must pass additional requirements before they can be hired, said BPD.The next academy class begins in July.Your neighborhood: Local coverage from WVTM 13

Dozens of people are undergoing testing to become new police officers in Birmingham.

The Birmingham Police Department said 75 people attended Saturday's testing at the Birmingham Police Academy.

The police department said that 43 people tested last week, bringing the total to 110 applicants who may enter the hiring process for the March 2025 academy class.

The applicants must pass additional requirements before they can be hired, said BPD.

The next academy class begins in July.
