13-year-old girl shot while riding in car near Center Point

Investigators say someone in a dark vehicle opened fire on the teen's vehicle.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. —

A 13-year-old girl is recovering after being shot Tuesday night in eastern Jefferson County.

Deputies were called before 10:10 p.m. on a call of a shooting in the 1200 block of Center Point Parkway in an unincorporated area of the county.

Investigators were told that a dark or black vehicle was driving in the same direction when someone in it opened fire at the girl's vehicle, hitting the young passenger.

She was taken to Children's of Alabama Hospital by a personal vehicle where she was reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators say at least two people were in the vehicle from which shots were fired.

There are no suspects in custody.
