A 76-year-old Birmingham man will be held without bond following his arrest multiple sex and child pornography charges.

Stanley Andrews, of Birmingham, was charged last week with two counts of first-degree rape, one count of first-degree sodomy and one count of sexual torture or abuse.

Those charges were filed after his arrest in April on 10 counts of “possession of obscene matter containing visual depiction of persons under 17 years of age involved in obscene acts.”

The rape, sodomy and sexual abuse charges stem from incidents that happened between June 2001 and Sept. 2003. Additional details about those alleged crimes have not been made public.

The alleged sexual abuse crimes were discovered as part of the pornography investigation, said Shelby County Chief Deputy District Attorney Ben Fuller.

The investigation began in January when Shelby County received a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Sheriff John Samaniego said investigators have no information that suggests the images were produced in or near Shelby County.

He was taken into custody after months of investigation by detectives from the Shelby County and Marion County sheriff’s offices.

Andrews on Wednesday went before Shelby County District Judge Casey Duncan for an “Aniah’s Law” hearing, during which prosecutors outlined evidence against him.

Duncan denied bond for Andrews on the rape, sodomy and sexual torture/abuse charges.

His bond on the child porn remains at $3.405 million. Those charges are not eligible for a denial of bond by statue.

Duncan bound all charges over to a Shelby County grand jury for indictment consideration.

If convicted, Andrews faces a possible sentence of between 10 years to life on the rape, sodomy, and sexual torture charges, between two years and 20 years on the possession of child pornography with intent to disseminate charge, and between one year and 10 years on the possession of child pornography charges.
