A second person suspected of being involved in a shooting that led to the deaths of three men in Mobile earlier this month has turned himself in to authorities in Puerto Rico, police said Thursday.
Adriel Pina is charged with hindering prosecution and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, according to a Mobile Police Department spokesman.
Pina’s age was not immediately known, and it is unclear when he will arrive in Mobile to face charges, police said.
Pina, who is not believed to be the shooter, is the second suspect charged this week in connection with the Jan. 18 triple homicide on Theodore Dawes Road by I-10 East.
He is also the second whom authorities claimed fled to Puerto Rico following the deadly shootings.
Anthony Morales Rivera, 34, who had an active warrant with the FBI for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, turned himself in to authorities on Monday, according to Mobile police.
Rivera was booked into Mobile County Metro Jail on three counts of murder in connection with the deadly Jan. 18 shootings.
Mobile police officers responded to the shooting around 7:34 p.m. Jan. 18 and found three male victims -- Marco Alvarado, 24; Christon Aponte, 30; and Angel Esparra, 28 with fatal gunshot wounds.
Officers learned the victims were involved in a physical altercation with a suspect while stopped at the overpass.
That’s when, according to police, a second suspect shot each of the victims.
Both suspects then left in separate vehicles before officers arrived.
