BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Gov. Kay Ivey will deliver her annual state of the state address to the Alabama Legislature next week.
Ivey, who has served as governor of Alabama since former Gov. Robert Bentley stepped down in 2017, will give the speech in the Old House Chamber of the Capitol Building.
Among Ivey's special guests invited to the address is Miss America Abbie Stockard and Army veteran Jae Barclay, who survived an explosion while serving a tour of Afghanistan in 2006.
During her previous address in 2024, Ivey announced that the state would be taking a proactive approach in understanding artificial intelligence by forming a task force to study it. She also announced a renewed push to promote workforce development across the state.
Ivey's speech comes as results from the National Report Card showing that while Alabama public schools were among the few to make significant strides in reading and math following the pandemic, they still lagged behind the national average.
The speech will begin at 6 p.m.
