An eagle that was incubating rock is now caring for an eaglet

No wonder Murphy, the eagle looks like he's sitting on *** secret. He is instead of incubating an egg. Murphy's incubating *** rock. How is he behaving with the rock? He's very protective of the rock. He squawks one another. Eagle lands on *** branch above the nest. Murphy built on the ground. He was injured as *** chick and can't fly, which is why he's here at the World bird sanctuary outside ST Louis Missouri and he just seems very content with this rock. *** keeper shot this video after first noticing Murphy acting unusually guarded about *** rock in the middle of *** nest. Normally eagle parents turn their eggs every few hours and Murphy can be seen nudging his rock. He settles down to keep it warm. It takes about 35 days for an eagle egg to hatch. Will he be sitting there for like *** month? Uh Possibly, um, he might sit there for *** little bit longer just to, you know, because it hasn't hatched. People are smitten with Murphy's dad's skills but feel bad that he's incubating *** dud. Someone proposed naming the rock Dwayne the rock after you know who another suggested the sanctuary swap the rock with *** chick for what reason? You know, he's very attached to his rock. *** fertilized eagle egg would be hard to come by. And if they slipped in, say *** goose egg, who knows how Murphy might react? The sanctuary CEO says birds whose eggs don't hatch properly, tend not to show signs of being depressed. So when you joke, who's gonna tell him? Yeah, I don't think anybody has to tell him. Murphy the eagle recently went viral because he was incubating a rock at the World Bird Sanctuary outside of St. Louis. He squawked when another eagle landed on a branch above the nest he built on the ground. Murphy was injured as a chick and can't fly.Officials at the sanctuary knew it would be tough to just replace the rock Murphy had become attached to, but he was recently given the chance to foster an eaglet. "Murphy's dad instincts were already in high gear, but at 31 years old, he had never raised a chick before," sanctuary officials wrote. At the sanctuary, handlers have been using security cameras to monitor how Murphy is interacting with the eaglet. So far, so good. "Murphy has displayed the behavior we were looking for," officials wrote on social media. "He has responded to the peeps of the baby, and begun protecting the area."Days later, it became evident that Murphy had started feeding the eaglet and the sanctuary took steps to create a space to facilitate as natural of an upbringing as possible in a rehabilitation setting.
