Birmingham man turns 103, married 77 years – His secret? The Elixir

They smile and shake their heads when they are asked. Birmingham’s Jack Boggan smiles back. “What’s the secret to such a long life?” Says Jack, “It’s The Elixir!”Jack Boggan turned 103 Wednesday, June 28. He lives in the Eastlake area of Birmingham with his wife Alma. Next to Jack, Alma is a spring chicken – she’s 99.Clive Otis Boggan was born in Bolling, Alabama. They called him "Little Jack" around the neighborhood. During World War II, he was a flight engineer on a B-29 bomber. He owned Boggan Carpet Installation in Irondale for 60 years. Jack and Alma had three kids – Nancy, Chuck and John are doing well today.A moment of joy: News We LoveJack and Alma are doing remarkably well these days. Jack mowed his lawn until a few years ago. He uses a cane today but gets around fine. Alma? She’s doing well, too, as she credits the joy of the Lord for her long life. Jack’s key? “It’s the Elixir,” he will tell you. The secret can now be told. For decade after decade, Jack and Alma have started their day with the drink they believe in. It’s a combination of apple cider vinegar, honey, lemon juice, spices and warm water. Day after day, year after year, Jack and Alma down a glass of their special concoction.
