HEY, GUYS, I WANT TO GIVE YOU SOME BACKGROUND ON HOW BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN SAYS THIS ALL HAPPENED IN A STATEMENT FROM THE SCHOOL. THEY SAY THEY’VE BEEN WORKING WITH MILES FOR THE SALE OF CAMPUS SINCE MAY. WELL, IN SEPTEMBER, BIRMINGHAM SOUTHERN SAYS A PURCHASE AGREEMENT WAS EXECUTED WITH A CLOSING DATE OF OCTOBER 25TH. THEY THEN TELL US THE CLOSING DATE WAS PUSHED BACK TO TODAY, NOVEMBER 25TH, AFTER MILES REQUESTED A SECOND EXTENSION EARLIER THIS MONTH. THAT REQUEST WAS DECLINED AND THE AGREEMENT HAS NOW EXPIRED. NOW, HERE’S PART OF A STATEMENT FROM BIRMINGHAM SOUTHERN. I WANT TO SHOW YOU THIS RIGHT NOW. IT READS, QUOTE, THE BSC COMMUNITY HAS GREAT RESPECT FOR MILES COLLEGE, ITS STUDENTS, FACULTY, STAFF AND ALUMNI AND APPRECIATES BOTH THE SHARED ROOTS AND THE ALIGNMENT OF MISSIONS. BUT TO MEET ITS COMMITMENTS TO LENDERS AND OTHER CREDITORS, THE BSC BOARD OF TRUSTEES IS OBLIGATED TO SELL THE 192 ACRE CAMPUS PROPERTY AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. The expected sale of Birmingham-Southern College to Miles College will not happen.According to a news release dated Nov. 25, the purchase agreement between the two schools expired at 3 p.m.BSC stated the owners have been working with Miles to complete the sale, even after Miles had requested a deadline extension to close on the deal.Miles asked for a second deadline extension to Dec. 24, but that was denied, according to the news release."The BSC community has great respect for Miles College, its students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and appreciates both the shared roots and the alignment of missions.
