YEAR. REGARDING THAT KIND OF CRIME. WELL, THE FATHER OF A TODDLER WHO WAS HIT AND KILLED BY A CAR IN STANISLAUS COUNTY EARLIER THIS WEEK IS NOW HIMSELF FACING CRIMINAL CHARGES. THE CRASH HAPPENED AROUND 830 TUESDAY NIGHT. THIS WAS ON HIGHWAY 33 IN CROWS LANDING. CHP SAYS THAT THE CHILD AND HIS FATHER, ELVIS ZEPEDA, WERE AT A FOOD TRUCK WHEN THE CHILD RAN INTO THE ROADWAY AND WAS HIT. THE LITTLE BOY, IDENTIFIED AS TWO YEAR OLD BENJAMIN ZEPEDA. HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL BUT DID NOT SURVIVE. NOW, ACCORDING TO THE HIGHWAY PATROL, THE 19 YEAR OLD DRIVER IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AFTER THE COLLISION. AS HE DID. THEY SAY THAT ZEPEDA, THE FATHER, FIRED SEVERAL GUNSHOTS AT THE DRIVER, SOME HITTING HIS CAR. CHP SAYS THAT THE DRIVER FEARED FOR HIS SAFETY AND DROVE OFF. A California man was arrested on Thursday after he fired shots at a driver who hit his son with a vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said. Officials said a 2-year-old and an adult, now identified as Elvis Zepeda, were standing near a food truck on the west shoulder of Highway 33 Tuesday when the child ran into the roadway.Zepeda chased him, but the toddler ran into the path of a BMW and was hit by the vehicle, CHP said. The child was taken to an area hospital where he later died. Officials said the BMW pulled over after the crash, but Zepeda then pulled out a gun and fired at the vehicle. Several of the rounds hit the rear of the vehicle, CHP said.The 19-year-old driver then drove away from the scene. He was later contacted by CHP and is cooperating with the investigation, officials said.Zepeda was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for attempted murder, possession of an illegal firearm and possession of a controlled substance.
