TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (TRIBUNE) – Southern Natural Gas has managed to shut down its gas line that broke near the Birmingham Eastern Landfill Tuesday afternoon.
According to Chris Basinger of the Trussville Tribune, the break occurred in a clearing south of Alton Drive and west of Magnolia South Drive, near the landfill, after it was reportedly hit by a backhoe.
The noise from the break could be heard as far as downtown Trussville.
There was no reported threat to nearby residents during the incident.
The break occurred around 3:50 p.m. and Birmingham Fire & Rescue and the Trussville Fire Department both responded shortly after.
According to Mike Strength with Trussville Gas & Water there has been no impact to the gas system in Trussville.
