Angelina Jolie, a Best Actress nominee for Maria at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards Feb. 7, made a statement without saying a word by departing from her usual beauty repertoire.
Critics Choice Awards 2025: How to Watch the Ceremony and Red Carpet
Not every award show can be a duet.
Angelina Jolie hit the red carpet at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards solo, breaking her streak of having her 19-year-old daughter Zahara as her go-to date for the season.
Instead, Jolie's most notable pairing at the Feb. 7 ceremony at Santa Monica's Barker Hangar was the bold red lip she was sporting, a rare departure from the neutral makeup she usually favors.
The rest of the Maria star's look, a romantic bisque-colored dress by Elie Saab, was subtly stunning. (See all the fashion at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards.)
The ceremony at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., being hosted once again by Chelsea Handler, was delayed a month due to the Los Angeles wildfires, making for a lower-key carpet.
Zahara did join Jolie—who settled her divorce from ex-husband Brad Pitt in December after a tense eight-year battle—at the 2025 Golden Globes. And the actress couldn’t help but reflect on her journey, detailing the “lifetime of difference” in the 25 years since taking home her Golden Globe for Girl Interrupted in 2000. (After which she took home all the prizes, including an Oscar.)

“Now I’m here with my daughter, so I’m here as a mom,” she explained to Live from E!: Golden Globes’ Zuri Hall while on the red carpet. “That’s different.”
While Zahara accompanied her mom on a few red carpets this season, Angelina’s son Knox, 16, joined her for a rare mother-son date at the Governor’s Awards in Los Angeles in November.
But the Eternals star has emphasized that, while they were born into the public eye, her six kids aren’t looking for life in the spotlight.
"They're especially shy, very private people," she told E! News in October of Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16, "and they want to be private.”
Still, they’ve followed in her footsteps behind the scenes as in addition to Vivienne working as her assistant as she produced the Tony-winning Broadway musical The Outsiders, Maddox and Pax both took on production roles on Maria.
"Mad and Pax were on this one doing AD [assistant directing] work," Angelina told The Hollywood Reporter in August. "They’ve done that quite a few times, and I think that’s good for them."
