How to watch: No. 9 Alabama attempts rebound roll vs Mercer
I'm just super proud of the guys. Uh, the way they prepared, I think, uh, led them to *** place where, uh, had some pretty good confidence coming in, just felt like, uh, the energy was there all week long. And, uh as the week kind of progress, you could just feel that, you know, we were on top of our game and under understand what it would take to come here and play four quarters. And I felt like that was probably, you know, most complete game we've played, we've done that to some extent here, the last 22 games against Missouri and, and tonight, so coming in *** tough environment, you know, just, uh, play after play, uh just staying the course, um, you know, and then coming out in the third quarter, uh getting an interception, I think, you know, just going back down the field and playing good complimentary team football, you can do whatever you want to help. Well, I think there's *** lot of other guys that helped, helped him, you know, uh get to those spots, uh where we're ahead of the chains, uh, you know, *** lot of smaller games that gets you into positions where your whole playbook is available to you. And, um, obviously he's got *** superpower when it comes to running the football. You know, you can see him not just be *** guy that gets first downs, but, uh, finishes and in the end zone. And so, uh, him doing what he did early on, you know, just to really, uh, got kind of the ball rolling there and, uh, you know, made the throws that were timely, uh, when needed and, you know, other guys continue to step up. Um, again, when we stay ahead of the chains on no playbooks available *** lot, we can do Charlie. Go ahead. You want to make points with the, with the tackle to kind of set up that. Uh, how many? Yeah, absolutely. You know, I just think, you know, you, you think about the score and the touchdowns, uh, for us when we got in those moments and then holding the field goals and just being able to slowly extend the lead, um, putting the pressure, you know, on them, uh, every time you have *** drive and, you know, you're swapping field goals for touchdowns. Um, you know, if you don't like that, but for us, uh, you know, I thought that was, that was huge and I love the way our defense is at right now where, you know, they might give up *** play here and there, but they move on to the next one go out and execute and, uh, you know, they're getting, they're getting, you know, that mindset where one yards, too many, um, they didn't want to give up that touchdown at the end either, you know. So *** lot of pride right now on that, uh, on that side of the ball, Nick. Yeah, on the defense, what was Kane's approach game plan? What did he do effectively limit in horse gear? Must find those tournaments? I think we had to just keep mixing up what, what they were seeing, you know, and, uh, he's *** great quarterback and, you know, can kind of predetermine, uh, *** little bit of where the ball might go. And I thought, uh, that, you know, just over the course of the week you could see, uh, uh, the wrinkles that we continue to add, uh, *** play off *** play, uh, you know, just really be effective and I think that was the, the case, uh, you know, that again, just mixing up the, the defenses, mixing up the pressures, uh, and, uh, you know, just making plays when we had *** chance. You know, there was *** couple of tackles, we missed *** couple of edges, we gave up. But, uh, for the most part, I thought we were pretty sound, uh, lined back up and play ball again to you. Speaking again again about the defense, the interception by Deonte in the second half, they drove down, completed two or found convergence on that drive and then he stopped them. How big was that, for momentum to kind of keep things going? Yeah, absolutely. I think that's one of the big, biggest plays there in the game. I mean, there's *** lot of them. Right. But that, uh, that just that, you know, coming out of the locker room, that feeling where, you know, hey, just don't give them, don't give them *** touchdown earlier or give them any points and to take that wind out of their sails, uh, get the takeaway and then, you know, I believe we went right down the field. Um, you know, and, uh, got the points, *** big, big swing of, uh e energy there and momentum, Katie. All right, we talked earlier this week about having *** faster start on offense. You score on the first drive. How were you in the plan for that first off? And then, yeah, you know, there's, there's plays that you're making and, um, I believe the completion on third down, you know, think about how big those are, you know, those, those plays that you forget about because it wasn't the touchdown. Um, but those, those conversions right there are the ones that, you know, extend the drive and allows you to, you know, keep stacking plays and get u understand what you're seeing and verifying that. It's what you, uh really were preparing for and, uh, feel really good about the plan. So um, you know, with the weather and the elements, you know, we knew that, uh, you know, having *** controlled run game, uh, you know, was gonna be, be really, really big. Um, we popped some explosives with Jay Mill but, uh, you know, just continue to wear down those couple, you know, two and three yard plays that we had early on turned into 567 as the game wore on chase, staying with the weather. It was in the forecast all week long. Did y'all do any wet ball practice during the week or kind of anticipated? Yeah, we did, uh, especially early in the week, you know, Tuesday, um, you know, felt good about, you know, just and I, what I loved about our guys is that they're asking, you know, we hadn't just all kinds of ways to get water on the ball, get out on the arms on the body and the hands, you know, and, you know, running backs and receivers just putting their hands back, you know, asking, you know, to get them wet, you know, and making that challenge, not just something where they're annoyed by it actually asking for knowing full well that that could be the case, you know, we were prepared for it. I feel, you know, you look at really, no, no turnovers, right? No turnovers on the game. Really. That's *** big difference in, in the game. And, uh, our ball security I thought was on point. All right, Cody, like JD was flying around making plays defensively, especially the, the strip sack after you guys got stopped on the, yeah, the, the takeaway is right, Deon's takeaway and then, uh, the strip sack huge, you know, because it was disappointing that we didn't take advantage of the way we were out on the field, our, our drive before, but to get the ball back and, and be able to respond and, and, uh, get those points that we felt we missed on, um, great play by, by him. Um And, you know, just getting the energy and the momentum back on our side. *** few more questions, Alex, go ahead. What do you see from Nick Sheridan and Jalen? No specific like the preparation that would have led to *** Yeah, it just, it's just continued to be the word of the week for us was relentless, you know, and relentless and, and when we, you know what we do on the field each and every play, but just relentless in our preparation, um, you know, it just starts with simple things, you know, just trying to go silent cadence and managing that and knowing that the, the checks were gonna be, you know, maybe down to two or three seconds. So if you had to, you know, make *** check or whatever, it might be with the crowd noise, that it would be hard that it wouldn't be easy and they just stayed the course, kept buckling down, kept getting better and better. Um, going back to the bi week, kept getting better and better on Sunday, you know, Tuesday, Wednesday, you could just see the momentum building, really liked, it, liked what I saw and I think we learned *** lot from, you know, the Tennessee game, you know, and I was thinking otherwise maybe after the first play of the game, right, uh, with ***, with *** penalty there. But, uh, you know, I, I still felt my heart and felt very comfortable, uh, that we would, we would be much in *** much better situation. That was just kind of *** one off thing. Go ahead. Ron coach, we talked about it on Monday about, you know, passing the first test with the zoo and now you pass another big test. What does that mean moving forward and what your team show you tonight? Yeah. You know, you're just, you're just trying to, to stack days, you know, and, um, you know, along with that when you do that, there's *** little bit of *** swagger, you know, and I really don't feel like we've ever been overconfident or complacent in any way. We haven't done enough here since we've been here to get to that point. So, any of the things that have happened over the course of the season, I just attribute to, you know, the things where maybe it's not gone as we'd hoped. Uh, I really attributed just part of our growth, you know, growth together and uh just stay in the course and you can see slowly, um you know, the little things coming together. Um and we gotta, we gotta reload it all and do it all over again, you know, and um you know, do it this week, back it up, uh keep improving, but uh it does make you feel good to see the progress that maybe is happening in practice, but it doesn't show up in games and now, you know, it's starting to show up in the big moments. Last question, Colin, do you feel like Jalen was rested and kind of rejuvenated? It seemed like he had some life that he hadn't had in his legs *** little bit tonight. Do you feel like he was, you know, kind of rejuvenating something to prove? Yeah, I think so. I mean, probably had some good vibes from *** year ago too, you know, and I just, I think there's something about we got him off to *** fast start and, you know, again other guys did their jobs too to help him get in that spot. You know, there's, there's blocks that other guys were making. I think our line played physical. I think we won the trenches, both offensive line and defensive line. But, uh, you know, blowing open some holes for him. Uh, everyone undo their part, uh helped take the pressure off, you know, the, the big moments where he's got to convert on *** third and extra long, every, every drive and, uh, when we were able to stay ahead of the chains, um, you know, we could think and dunk three yards, five yards, eight yards and then all of *** sudden the big supposed to play. But yeah, it felt like his, he was certainly running well tonight, wasn't he? So, uh, you know, it was fresh. Thanks coach. We got players coming in here.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. —
The last time a Kalen DeBoer-coached team lost two games by mid-October, his Washington Huskies suddenly went on a tear.
DeBoer and No. 9 Alabama would love a similar run of sustained success after a dominant road win over then-No. 14 LSU. Those Huskies went on to win 21 consecutive games following road losses to UCLA and Arizona State in 2022, a streak that extended all the way into last season’s national championship game.
Alabama (7-2, No. 9 CFP) gets a reprieve from Southeastern Conference play Saturday against FCS team Mercer (9-1) before resuming the chase for league championship and playoff shots. Barring a monumental upset, of course.
“Honestly, it’s really simple,” DeBoer said. “You’ve got momentum to build off of, and you make sure you take advantage of it, and then you also continue to keep the pedal down, keep focused on what you believe in. And we’ve been doing that. We were doing that then, that year, and we’re doing that now.”
Alabama has won two straight blowouts against ranked teams — 42-13 at LSU and 34-0 over then-No. 21 Missouri — since road losses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee. The team closes DeBoer’s first regular season against Oklahoma and Auburn.
It’s a tall order to replicate that success starting in his debut season at Washington, but DeBoer said it’s something he can look at and “try to figure out what worked and what didn’t to keep the team moving in the right direction.”
Mercer coach Mike Jacobs knows his team can’t treat this game as “a tourist thing” but wants to play well on a national stage.
“The reality is most kids grow up wanting to play in the SEC or the Big Ten and I think it provides them an opportunity to prove themselves,” Jacobs said.
He said quarterback DJ Smith is day to day for the game with a “lower body injury.”
Mercer’s season
Unlike Alabama, the Bears are already in the playoffs, at the FCS level. They have clinched at least a share of the Southern Conference championship and the league’s automatic berth. It’s Mercer’s first league title since winning the Dixie Conference in 1932, and a win over Furman on Nov. 23 would give the Bears the outright league title.
Mercer’s only loss this season came in the state of Alabama, falling 55-35 at Samford on Oct. 19.
Milroe’s foursomes
Quarterback Jalen Milroe joined Shaun Alexander as the only Alabama players with multiple games scoring at least four rushing touchdowns. Milroe accomplished the feat against LSU last weekend and also against the Tigers last season.
Ty Simpson’s shot?
Alabama backup quarterback Ty Simpson is a former five-star recruit who hasn’t seen much action this season behind Milroe but figures to contend for the starting job next season. The third-year sophomore has played in four games this season, completing 9 of 14 passes for 96 yards. Simpson could see more extended action if this game goes as expected.
The turnover battle
Alabama’s 21 forced turnovers (eight fumbles, 13 interceptions) leads the SEC and is fourth-most in FBS. Malachi Moore has forced two fumbles and intercepted a pair of passes.
The Bears, meanwhile, have had three straight turnover-free games.
