A judge has granted Joran van der Sloot's attorney's request to extend the trial and pretrial deadlines of his client's case.Previously, van der Sloot had until July 17 to decide whether to enter a guilty plea or to go to trial.However, he later waived his right to a speedy trial, with his attorney filing a motion for an extra 3o days to make that decision in order to adequately prepare his defense.On Monday, United States Magistrate Judge Gray Borden granted the request, extending the deadline for pretrial motions to Sept. 11, with any response due no later than September 18.The trial date will be set by separate order by a United States district judge.Van der Sloot, who is the main suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, was extradited from Peru to Alabama in early June.He faces one count of extortion and one count of wire fraud against Holloway's mother, Bethany.This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.

A judge has granted Joran van der Sloot's attorney's request to extend the trial and pretrial deadlines of his client's case.
