Caliber Collision and GEICO gave a Nebraska veteran and single dad keys to jumpstart a brighter future

RECEIVED THE GIFT OF A LIFETIME. THIS SINGLE FATHER OF THREE GOT A JUMP START TO A BRIGHTER FUTURE. KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN’S EDDIE MARCELLE BRINGS US THIS NEW STORY AT SIX, AS THAT VETERAN GETS A NEW CAR. THREE, TWO. ONE. HEY, THERE WE GO. -- NICE. WOW. THANK YOU. BRIAN BECERRA RECEIVED THE KEYS TO A NEWLY REFURBISHED HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THANKS TO GEICO AND THE TEAM AT CALIBER COLLISION. WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR VETERANS, YOU KNOW, THROUGH THE PEACE AND THE PROTECTION AND THE FREEDOM THAT THEY GIVE US, IT ALLOWS US TO GO OUT AND PURSUE OUR PASSION, OUR PURPOSE, WHATEVER THAT MAY BE. AND SO BY DONATING A VEHICLE LIKE THIS TO A VETERAN WHO’S DONE THAT FOR US, IT’S JUST A REALLY TANGIBLE WAY FOR US TO BE ABLE TO GIVE BACK TO THAT VETERAN. BECERRA, ACCOMPANIED BY ONE OF HIS THREE SONS TODAY, WAS NOMINATED FOR THE CAR BY THE NONPROFIT SOLDIERS ANGELS. I SAID A PRAYER FOR SOME RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION. AND, YOU KNOW, COMING TO FIND OUT THAT I’M THE FIRST NEBRASKA RECIPIENT TO RECEIVE THIS KIND OF ASSISTANCE IS A TRUE BLESSING. BECERRA HAS BEEN WITHOUT RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION FOR SOME TIME NOW, AS HIS CURRENT VEHICLE HAS OVER 230,000 MILES ON IT. HAVING A RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION, GETTING TO APPOINTMENTS, AND GETTING YOUR KIDS AROUND IS UP THERE. AND THIS IS DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY GOING TO ALLOW ME SOME MORE OPPORTUNITIES. BECERRA’S OLDEST SON IS RECOVERING FROM A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. FURTHER MEDICAL FOLLOW UPS ARE EXPECTED IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, AS WELL AS HIS OWN VA APPOINTMENT VISITS. BECERRA HIMSELF IS DISABLED, WITH SERVICE CONNECTED INJURIES. HAVING A VEHICLE. WITH EVERYTHING GOING WRONG, YOU KNOW, THROWING MONEY AT SOMETHING AND THEN TO HAVE A BLESSING LIKE THIS COME ALONG REALLY, REALLY TAKES A LOT OF STRESS OFF OF ME. SURROUNDED BY THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THIS ALL POSSIBLE, BECERRA SAYS TODAY IS A BLESSING. JUST TRULY BLESSED ALL THE WAY AROUND, AND I CAN’T WAIT TO BE ABLE TO PAY IT FORWARD. REPORTIN

A U.S. Navy veteran and single father of three sons, Brian Becerra, received keys to a newly refurbished vehicle from Caliber Collision and GEICO as a thank you for his service and to help relieve the family’s transportation challenges on Tuesday."I said a prayer for some reliable transportation, and you know, coming to find out that I'm the first Nebraska recipient to receive this kind of assistance is a true blessing," Becerra said. The vehicle, a 2020 Hyundai Elantra, was donated by GEICO and refurbished by technicians at Caliber Collision’s 118th Street location in Omaha, who volunteered their personal time and skills to restore the vehicle as part of the NABC Recycled Rides program. "When we look at our veterans through the peace and the protection and the freedom that they give us, it allows us to go out and pursue our purpose, whatever that may be, and so by donating a vehicle like this to a veteran who's done that for us, it's just a real tangible way for us to give back to that veteran," said Jay Bornhorst, the Caliber Collison vice president of operations. Becerra was nominated for the vehicle donation by the nonprofit Soldiers’ Angels. "Just truly blessed all the way around, and I can't wait to be able to pay it forward," Becerra said.
