The Auburn Tigers (33-19-1, 7-13 SEC) begin its SEC tournament play on Tuesday at 8:55 CT on SEC Network under the lights at the Hoover Met against the Missouri Tigers (30-23, 10-20 SEC).
Butch Thompson’s squad enters the tournament on an eight-game winning streak, including a three-game sweep of Missouri last weekend at Plainsman Park in the season finale.
Tommy Vail (5-1, 3.38) is the starting pitcher for Auburn against Missouri’s LHP Javyn Pimental (1-1, 6.26). Vail is the SEC with a 1.47 ERA over the last six weeks and is 3-0 with 35 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings. Auburn finished the season with a 12-3 record in conference play and are 10-2 Vail’s starts this season.

Auburn 7 Missouri 4 Top 5
Auburn reliever Chase Isbell gave up a leadoff single to Trevor Austin. Hank Zeisler and Tre Morris flew out for the first and second outs. Dalton Bargo hit a two-out single to put runners on first and second. Isbell bounced from allowing two hits with an inning-ending Ross Lovich pop-up to Foster at short. Missouri goes scoreless in the fifth.
Auburn 7 Missouri 4 Bottom 4th
Cole Foster launched a ball over the Auburn bullpen in right field for a three-run home run. Foster hit the blast on the first pitch of the at-bat against Missouri reliever Brock Lucas. Kason Howell led off the inning, reaching first after a Missouri starter Pimental’s last pitch of the game hit him. Lucas entered the game for Pimental, and Caden Green reached on a fielder’s choice when Howell got gunned down at second.
Chris Stanfield drove in the first run of the four-run inning with a single plating LaRue. Foster’s three-run bomb in the next at-bat gave Auburn a three-run lead after entering the frame down by one.
Missouri 4 Auburn 3 Top 4th
Missouri regains the lead with a three-run fourth inning. Trevor Austin singled to right field and moved to second on an error by Peirce. Tre Morris hit a ball toward third base that bounced off Bryson Ware’s glove and got bobbled by Cole Foster.
Austin scored from third base on the Ware error. Austin reached third on Hank Zeisler’s ground out. Vail struck out Russ Lovich, giving himself an opportunity to escape the fourth with an Auburn lead. Matt Garcia drew a walk with two outs. Vail walked Cam Chick with the bases loaded. Thompson pulled Vail after 80 pitches with two outs, and the bases loaded.
Chase Isbell gave up a run on a wild pitch. Isbell walked Wilmsmeyer before striking out Mann to end the inning, with Auburn allowing three runs. Vail left the game after 3 2/3 innings, four runs with two unearned, four walks, and five strikeouts after facing 18 hitters.
Auburn 3 Missouri 1 Bottom 3rd
Auburn takes the lead 3-1. Chris Stanfield’s double that banged off the rightfield fence put runners at second and third with no outs. Cole Foster got hit by a Pimental pitch to load the bases with no outs. Peirce drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game. Nate LaRue, who reached on a lead-off single, scored on Peirce’s walk. McMurray hit a grounder toward first base, driving in Stanfield. Foster scored on Bryson Ware’s sacrifice fly.
Missouri 1 Auburn 0 Top 3rd
Vail had an easier third inning. Missouri went three up and three down on nine pitches in the third. Cam Chick hit a weak grounder to McMurray at first base. Wilmsmeyer hit a pop-up to left-fielder Chris Stanfield, and Luke Mann popped out to Cole Foster at shortstop on Vail’s ninth pitch of the frame.
Missouri 1 Auburn Bottom 2nd
Brandon Ware hit a line drive to second base for the first out of the second inning. Ike Irish hit a dribbler back to the mound for out number two. Kason Howell got the Tigers’ first hit with two outs. Caden Green struck out on a curveball to end the second inning.
Auburn 0 Missouri 1 Top 2nd
Vail issued consecutive walks to Hank Zeisler and Tre Morris with no outs. Thompson visited the mound after the walk to Morris. Giving up the walks bit Vail, but he mitigated the damage. Zeisler moved to third on a sacrifice fly to center field and scored the game’s first run on a deep fly ball by Ross Lovich. Vail settled down and finished the frame with his fourth strikeout.
Auburn 0 Missouri 0 Bottom 1st
Leadoff hitter and centerfielder Chris Stanfield grounded out to second base in his first at-bat. Bobby Peirce drew a two-out walk following a Cole Foster strikeout. Peirce stole second during Cooper McMurray’s at-bat, putting a runner in scoring position. The inning ended with Missouri starter Pimental inducing a looking strikeout for out three.

Vail starts the game by striking out Ty Wilmsmeyer, Luke Mann, and Trevor Austin. Vail got them each on swinging strikeouts. Vail retired the side with 18 pitches in the opening frame.
